If you don't shower for a few days your body begins to neutralize the smell, and if you're still concerned just change your underwear and apply body spray every day

I shower once a month, if that. I don't smell, nor do I have any rashes or skin conditions like society would have you believe

Meanwhile at your workplace, you are making people feel physically ill smelling you.

No. It doesn't. It learns to ignore the smell.

Everyone else still smells you, and it makes them sick.

THIS

Also, for the love of god, do not use body spray over bad body odor, the combination is often worse than just straight bad body odor.

As teens it's axe body spray, as adults it's Drakkar Noir or Polo Sport.

Ugh.

So we won't have sex with people who are dirty and more likely to be harboring bacteria and fecal matter.

I'm guessing it's an evolutionary response with the idea that poor hygiene will likely mean poor health. It's why we find things like yellow teeth unattractive - we wouldn't want to mate with someone who might not have the health to see through the raising of our offspring.

Seeing as how less then half of children made it to elementary school age back then did it really matter how good the parents were?

You're looking at it the wrong way round, it makes it even more important LOL - you'd want to mate with the healthiest possible woman in the hope they'd pass on those genetics to the child and give them a better chance.

I distinctly remember a co worker whose body odor was so bad we got numerous customer complaints. He told everyone he showered once a month and didn't use deodorant because it was "unhealthy". He said he couldn't smell it either.

He was full of shit because he also chainsmoked cigarettes. THATS unhealthy asshole, you fucking stink

I think we have lost a sense of healthy, individual musk. There used to be a lot more talk about a person's scent in older media and I presume even moreso before the common advent of perfumes and widespread literacy.

That said, a body's natural smell is not BO and conflating them is wrong. Wash yourself *at least* every three days. Every day if you're between nine and twenty years old, or over sixty-five. Every other day can be adequate most seasons of the year if you don't sweat a lot and you also don't sit all day; I always smell worse getting off a plane than I do leaving the gym.

Yeah. I'm pretty sure our ancestors didn't have access to pristine water, hair/body soap, toothpaste, and maybe some more superficial stuff like scented oils or fragrances.

I think that stuff was probably used in like ancient Egypt, or Greece or whatever.. but not throughout the history of man.

I've heard it said at one time it may have been a natural cologne of sorts to attract a mate but over time it became repulsive and most of us haven;t evolved to not produce it. Except East Asians.
