This is interesting. So the cashier gets the change? Say you buy something for $5 and hand over $10 so the $5 goes to the cashier?

Usually the change is a cent, and the convenience of not carrying around pennies is worth more than the actual penny.

Though when I was a cashier some dumb kids would try to tell me keep the change with what was obviously their parents money, and the change was like 70 cents lmao

Sometimes its a hassle carrying change or the amount isn't worth holding up the line. Another customer may be a few cents short so that extra change can help them out.

I remember the first time I did this and it was the worst feeling ever.

I bought something and the change was literally 1 damn penny, but I didn't want it. So I told the cashier to keep it and she said 'thank you' as a sort of "I take pity on ur peasantness, u 1 cent harlot"

After that I just felt like shit, but couldn't go back or it'd be even worse.
