I just fail to see how it was an upgrade from server lists. I never had a problem with matchmaking until I played on PC then it started to feel like a more limited experience

I'm fine with lootboxes in video games if everything that you can get in them is either cosmetic (like Overwatch and its skins) or can be earned some other way through a reasonable amount of normal gameplay (like CoD WW2 and its post-launch weapons). Once there are things that give a gameplay advantage that can only be acquired by getting lucky with a lootboxes, then it's going too far into pay-to-win and I won't support it.

But in a real-life card game, you also have the option to buy single cards instead of buying packs to get them, and you can trade or re-sell the things you get that you don't want or need. That's the key difference. In video games with lootboxes, sometimes there's no other way to earn an item than to get lucky in a lootbox, and if you get something really good but have no interest in using it, then tough shit.

In FIFA this year the best card is 15mil coins

You earn about 500 coins per game

If you play FUT Champions, Rivals and Squad Battles to an average ranking, you'll play about 50-60 games a week (30k coins) you might make on average 200-250k extra coins a week in rewards on average plus (some weeks you might get lucky with a big pull). So without trading, or buying packs, you're making about 250k a week probably. That'd take 60 weeks to earn enough to buy the best card (one card). But FIFA is a yearly cycle so you wouldn't earn the coins through natural playing.

Of course, you could get lucky and pack the card, or trade cards to earn coins. But EA games, particularly sports games, are tailored towards p2w. You want the best cards, you either gotta be elite or spend money.

Playing with randoms in matchmaking is worse, because it will most of the time match you with worse players and your ranking will never be where it's supposed to.

Multiplayer games were better when rankings weren't a thing, servers just had everyone of all skill levels, and people played to have fun rather than trying to copy the meta because they think they're the greatest player in the world

i just have nightmares of playing DOTA back when it was just a Warcraft3 mod and it just sucks getting placed with people much worse or much better than you.

But I can also see how ranked has made the community more toxic and made people care too much about rankings.

even smaller no-name companies or companies with guaranteed big sellers will put in lootboxes just to make their greedy shareholders and ceos happy

companies with record profits will still fire half their staff because it's never about not having enough money to stay afloat but not having enough money to hoard for themselves

Lootbox systems are fine if there's a FAIR system that lets players play and grind to unlock the same stuff instead of needing to spend money or get lucky.

Sadly, most of them don't. Supply drop only weapons completely destroyed Black Ops 4 this year.

You have no idea what your talking about.

The loot box system in sports game (mainly 2k games) are so bad your at a immediate disadvantage without spending additional money on gambling lootboxes. Playing regularly would take you dozens upon dozens of hours just to get a DECENT build in my player mode in 2k. Its frustrating that people who dont play sports game think the loot system in these games arnt a big deal.

Their design with a predatory nature to get people to spend more money on virtual currency. Something that should not exist in video games.
