I'm just doing the normal Level course on max speed and auto to get books, then I'll use them on my Pikachu and currently Houndoom. Thankfully, it seems like you get enough vouchers for the worthwhile (i.e. non-Levelup Manual rewards) stuff just completing all the achievements for it, unless your luck is just really bad with the after-battle bonuses. Apparently end game is a DPS race.
