I have a samsung 1tb ssd, is that any good? I'd thought the computer would start up instantaneously but it still takes a minute or so.

My SSD boots Windows 10 in like 5 seconds, you might not have the chipset storage drivers installed or you have a lot of startup junk or something

Took 4 1/2 hours and also did the 60% to 57% thing.

Like WTF, I could've uninstalled and reinstalled Windows from scratch faster than that.

I really want to know more about this. I hope some computer wizards investigate why this happens.

It depends on what other things you have plugged in. Mouse, keyboard, etc are fine.
Things like USB storage, more and more harddrives, etc, take longer. Also might want to check the start up manager.
ctrl+shift+esc, click "more details" then start up tab then screenshot it and paste it

As the uh, the "IT EXPERT", let me let you know the arcane secret

Progress bars mean fuck all. They're placebo affects. It could go backwards, forwards, in a loop, doing the cha-cha-cha and it won't matter.

the update literally stole 2 days worth of work from me at work.

don't do it. Other than some icon enhancements on Outlook and such I'm not even sure what the fuck was "improved"

And...really...were the icon enhancements really necessary? Talk about a waste of resources.

I apparently have no say in the matter, I've turned my settings to not check or download for updates automatically and I still find my computer has updated and reset itself without giving me any warning that it's doing so at least once a month.

Fucking Microshit.

why do people blindly update before confirming whether the update will break their pc or not
i have mine blocked for the simple reason i don't trust MS software quality check and only update once a year when i confirm that it won't break my pc

I'm unsure. It's some update that is required due to Windows 10 April 2018 updated becoming unsupported on November 12 odlf this year.

Probably the 1809 to 1903 update then.
The bigger ones tend to take a long ass time

i am a power user and currently use a bat file to block the update since MS doesn't want it's user to have the freedom to decide whether they want to update or not and i hate that i like to control my pc thank you

The thing is that through the deployment of many many systems for my company, I never get the same experience twice with updates. There are also different methods they get you the updates. Windows has built in a deployment interface where you can receive the update via other systems on the LAN (you have to specifically shut that off)

It has to do incremental updates / restarts / installs. If you are back three service packs, then you can expect all of that to process one step at a time
