Due to standing contracts, Disney cannot use characters found at Universal's Marvel Super Hero Island in their US theme parks. That's why Guardians of the Galaxy has a ride at Disney Land, but the Avengers and other big names do not.

Marvel sure was a licensing whore back in the day heh.

I wonder why it took so long for a media conglomerate to buy them out.

Good.

I don't want the Disney parks becoming Marvel Land. It's bad enough that they replaced the Tower of Terror in Disneyland and a literal Epcot attraction with a Guardians of the Galaxy rollercoaster.

The attraction needed to be replaced (it's from the mid 90s and you could tell) but with another ride or show about energy. Not with Guardians of the Galaxy.

The law needs to be changed. The owner of an IP should be allowed to do anything they want with they're IP as long as it isn't public domain. Marvel should be allowed to do whatever with their own crap.

They are and they did. They decided to sell exclusive rights to their IP.

The owner of the IP did do whatever they wanted.

Disney then bought those people out and had to agree with whatever stuff they already signed away.

Licensing agreements would be worthless if they could be ignored.

Lending theme park rides, areas and attractions would be a difficult thing to pitch.

Look at the stuff with Nintendo and Universal. That agreement was signed years ago and the attractions still aren't ready. If Universal can't be guaranteed some sort of exclusivity why would they bother? And Nintendo isn't going to build their own theme park anytime soon.

Maybe you should have written in the contract a way to get your shit back from Jim.

The Spider-Man ride at universal was one of my favorite childhood memories. Same day from the gift store I bought a graphic novel that collected a bunch of old spider-man stories featuring the villains from the ride. Read that thing like a thousand times.

Contracts were signed, agreements were made. There are probably ways out of the agreement, but none that would be profitable enough to actually follow through on, otherwise they would have done it already.

This. The list TC supplied really only applies to Disney World in Florida. Disneyland in California can use all of those characters. Disney's California Adventure (across from Disneyland) is currently building a Marvel themed area that opens next year and an Avengers roller coaster that will open some years later.

The ride the Guardians of the Galaxy coaster is replacing in Epcot was an absolute garbage ride that should have been tossed in the trash many years ago. It was Ellen's (as in Ellen Degeneres) universe of energy. It was a long (like 15-20 minutes) ride that was more educational than entertaining and known to put people to sleep.oi
