Current Events > Picking a character for WoW Classic is stressful as hell.

First I gotta choose Horde or Alliance.

I was always Alliance from 2005-2010 when I quit near the end of Wrath. Part of me wants to roll Alliance again for the nostalgia, part of me wants to roll Horde for the freshness.

But then there's picking classes.

Vanilla main was a warrior, BC was a mage. Wrath was a death knight so forget that.

Do I make a warrior/mage for moar nostalgia points? Something totally different? There's like 7 other classes I could go with

I wanna be useful to groups, good at soloing, and decent at PvP. So many things fit this criteria.

Warrior gets extra health and shit so they're the best Horde tanks, right?

Shamans seem pretty cool and I've never played one

I played a druid once back in vanilla, a night elf, but I wasn't too interested in it.

They can be hunters too, I think?

Only thing that turns me away from Tauren is I hate their racial mounts. Kodos are ugly.

Human alliance paladin. It's a desirable class for raiding (assuming you don't mind healing) and they get an extremely cheap mount at 40. It's also easy (though maybe a bit slow) to level as a paladin since most of their DPS comes from auto-attacks.

Word.

I had more fun refreshing Seal of Righteousness every 30 seconds while auto-attacking in the Classic Beta than I've had with any iteration of Paladin since the original days of Vanilla.

Having "more buttons to hit more often" sounds like it'd be more fun, but it kinda makes the whole game feel button-mashy. Not every class needs to be a rogue, Blizzard.

Personally I fucking loved it back in 2005. Dabbled in some private servers back before the official classic was announced to see if it was just nostalgia, but I still loved it. It's a fantastic game.

Mages are also fantastic raid DPS, but there's a lot of gear competition because they're a popular class.

I would say yes. The current game is tremendously different from Classic, so much so that they're separate games in all but name.

Classic might be dated, but after playing the beta I can say confidently that the design philosophy still holds up very well.

Bro, it's about the feel of the game. Rather than being an unkillable death machine fighting 3-5 enemies at one time from level 1-120, Classic is about picking your battles, fighting smart, conserving mana, using long cooldowns intelligently, minimizing spell pushback, etc.

It's about the flow of the fight rather than hitting as many buttons as possible as quickly as possible.

Nowadays in BfA the best stat for basically every DPS class is haste, and that's in part because you're supposed to be hitting a button every single time the global cooldown is up, otherwise you're losing DPS. More haste = shorter GCD = more buttons pressed more quickly = more damage.

I like it when my weapon and my strategic choices matter more than how efficiently I can hit one button every 1.5 seconds or less.
