One thing I miss is the ability to just plug in and play, without needing to update every damn time.

Today's games are objectively better in terms of graphics, engine, etc. but they don't take the time to make things quality in other areas. Fewer games have quality story, fewer games have actual challenge, and fewer games seem polished despite those graphical/engine upgrades. More and more, games need to have been out six months to get the kinks out. So despite the technological advances, games on the whole seem to be of lower quality.

I am of the mind that gaming peaked around 2005-2006, personally, just before the Casual Revolution. There was probably also a peak in the early 90s.
