...now seem mediocre or worse to you presently?

Sometimes the truth sucks and this seems like one of those times.

That's not true. I played a lot of Age of Empires 2 when I was a kid and it still holds up today.
I can still play Halo 3 and Goldeneye and Perfect Dark for hours longer than I can play modern shooters.
Baldur's Gate 2 is still GOAT rpg.

Antifar had made one major error though. He'd ignored the sign that had cautioned him about cruelbuffalos wearing turbams. There was a key in between them.

I'm not saying EVERY game is that way but for me discovering something I did like as a kid suddenly feels jank, antiquated, and rough as an adult is like an unpleasant cold shower. The entire reason I started playing it again was because I wanted to reconnect with the sensation of playing it in context and when that is lost it nags me.

Certainly a lot of older games can lose their shine but retain their charm (or even better when you find a new way of looking at an old game that gives you a different experience that you didn't have when you were younger). However it's not impossible that an older game just out-and-out disappoints you when played with years of video gaming behind you.

Quite a few people who revisit older games and find them underwhelming just seem unfazed by it. That they're fine with "it's not actually as good as I thought". A video game isn't like a cheap toy you had as a kid where the one-dimensionality of it wears off later in life. It ought to retain some elements that are timeless due to the amount of work that (should) go into making them.

I still enjoy games I played when I was younger. I wouldn't say they're worse or mediocre but a lot of the fun back then was because they were new.

I like that I enjoyed imperfect games. It made me into who I am today.

I still enjoy 90% of the games I played when I was young, and get more enjoyment out of them than modern games

Because Im mostly aware of this fact before I revisit them. Probably because as a kid, even if I enjoyed it, some base part of me knew it wasnt as good as my other games, and that it was my imagination that filled in the gaps in quality.

only game that really surprised me was Rescue Rangers. And its not even because its very bad. Its just, piss easy lol. But somehow that Owl boss used to be impossible for me

Its true a ton of games from the past hold up but youre right TC, its a shame when they dont. OG Ocarina of Time is one that doesnt for me :/ though I havent tried it in a few years. (Also never had a chance to try the remaster wish theyd release it on the Switch.)

That's actually a good example, if early previews are indicative of what will happen when it goes general release.

Depends on the game

Some of them hold up really well.

And I am not upset by the ones that don't . They still brought me a lot of fun
