I remember when I watched the riff of Soul Taker, and it was also the first time I watched the movie, and I recall becoming more interested in the film than the actual riff as it went on. Soul Taker was pretty okay, yeah.

Hobgoblins immediately jumps to mind. It was such a cheesy, bad 80s flick through and through and I love it with or without the riff.

Pretty much. Lots of 'padding' as they used to say on MST.

This Island Earth. It's a fun and entertaining 50's sci-fi movie with colors that pop.

The Brain that Wouldn't Die. I mean, The Head that Wouldn't Die. Whatever. I adore this stupid movie for it's sleaziness and boldness.

Bloodlust. It's The Most Dangerous Game except shorter and with June "Judo Flip!" Kennedy and Robert "suck in that gut, Mr. Brady" Reed. Plus, Wilton Graff does a decent Vincent Price.

MST3K actually got me into science fiction movies from the 60's and prior. I know the show gets a bad rap from genre fans because it "puts down" their favorites, but for me it was a gateway into a different world of cinema.

Honestly, even if I like a movie, Im not above a good riff. The Rifftrax take on Mothra had me dying.

Some people just need to learn how to take the piss out of the things they like. Its fun :p

Yeah I really like Godzilla movies but I wasn't bothered at all when MST tore that shit up.

I'm in agreement, but some fans think it's an insult to the people who worked on the movie. In some instances it is true. I've read interviews from people that starred in films shown on MST3K and they felt hurt by the mocking or they didn't care for the spirit of it. I don't believe the MST3K crew themselves ever thought of it as talking down or shaming anybody, however. The discussion then continues into talk about "if it's a good movie, then it doesn't matter" or " separate the mocking from the movie" and so on along with "grow thicker skin."

ADDED: To be fair, there are also some creators that loved and enjoyed having their material mocked by the show. It all comes down to each person, I suppose.

Then there are instances like the makers of Time Chasers. They loved MST3K and asked the guys to play their movie. When it ran on MST3K, they were mortified about how hard they got slammed. I don't know what they were expecting, but apparently they weren't too happy with the outcome.

There's also the rumor that Joe Don Baker threatened the MST crew after they badmouthed "Mitchell." Kevin said he thought it was just a joke, though.

But on the other end there's guys like Rick Sloane, the director of Hobgoblins, that actively sought to get the film riffed by the MST crew and absolutely loved when it happened.
