Technically, just about anything can be art. But to call games an art form, I'd say not really applicable most of the time.

No other medium of art requires as much skill as playing a game, though. Music and visual art are universal, literature and film/television require basic literacy if it's in a different language, but video games often require a lot of prerequisites to be enjoyed.

Why do you think the ability to be enjoyed affects somethings classification as art? Ive never enjoyed poetry and I never will, but I wouldnt discount its status as a form of art over that.

If you think videogames aren't art, you're just an art snob. There's no other way to put it.

I don't see how anyone can seriously look at a videogame where entire teams of people literally create entire worlds from scratch, write stories, and compose original music and say that its not art. That's like three different art forms right there. Even something on the simpler end of the spectrum still has some degree of artistry in it.

Also, just because something is art doesn't say anything about its quality.

Video games are certainly art. They are creations that involve storytelling, animation, and design. All art forms.

People get hung up on the term art and assume it implies quality. It doesnt.

The layout of this site qualifies as art. A toilet paper package is art. You could say a shitstain is art. If its a creation of the human mind, or ass, its art.

This. Like I consider the game brothers: a tale of two sons to be art but wouldnt call your average generic fps to be art. Or really any game where its all about the gameplay and story takes a major backseat.

That brothers game though is by far the most artsy game ive played though as I generally dont play games like that. But it tells a coherent and emotional story all without a single word being said and if that isnt art Idk what is.
