I mean, there are 20,000,000 active companies in the US. That puts her company in the top .004% of fastest growing companies.

Women have it extremely rough in STEM. Those comments are beyond sad. I quit the field because the sexism was so rampant, I couldnt get anywhere in my career. Ive known so many women in STEM jobs who deal with constant sexism and harassment. So called sexual harassment trainings are meaningless stuff HR makes you take to cover their asses but they do nothing when it comes to actual issues.

Rant over.

My wife is an aerospace engineer and adjunct teacher for programming on the side. The disrespect she gets in both jobs is ridiculous. Her boss is intimidated by her because she has more education than him and gives her crap jobs to do. On the rare occasion he gives her something worthwhile and she does it well, she doesn't get the credit for it. In her programming class, there will always be 2-3 male students who challenge her on everything because they feel attacked being taught by a female programmer. I've met one of the guys and he's a very "well acshually" kind of guy at every class.

Relating to the OP, I imagine the model is belittled because some people cannot accept that she has looks and a brain. The only comfort some of these people have when they see such attractive, successful people is that they are stupid. When that is not the case, they get furious.

On stack overflow, if you answer a question, every upvote you get is worth a point. While some answers have like 1000s of upvotes those are really rare. 400/500 upvotes is typically considered a fucking ton for answering a really popular question that a lot of people wanted to know.

So either she answered like 75 or so very common but difficult questions or answered thousands of very specific questions that got maybe 3/4 upvotes each. Either way means she's an immense contributor to the site like guys who write thousands of wiki articles.

People have gotten hired for programming jobs based on their stack overflow points.

My very first job out of school, I was hired to shadow one of the older engineers because he was retiring the next year. He was supposed to be my mentor. Instead, he refused to work with me. He refused to even speak with me and hardly looked at me. So they had to give me scraps of work from other engineers while I got no guidance.

Second job, the senior engineers refused to give me work. They gave me shit to copy or proofread for 8 months before finally giving me anything. When they took me to my first site visit (a year in) they allowed our clients to sexually harass me and laughed about it. I went home crying that day I felt so humiliated. Finally, another engineer at the company came to warn me that he had heard this group conspire to treat me like shit because I was on a visa and had to do what they said.

Third and final job, I tried tech support for other engineers and I was given no training. All of my male peers were flown out of state for a 4 week hands on training with all of our equipment. I was given manuals to read. They said it was because of a lack of budget. A few months later they hired male engineers and guess what, they were flown for training. I still had the highest surveys of the team and my cases were always closed on time, but they chalked it up to me having the most empathy instead of me being great at solving problems.

Oh I bet. Every male dominated industry has rampant sexism but if women try and speak up were immediately told its all in our heads and were bitching for nothing. HR pins you as a troublemaker if you try to bring up anything. I have never gone to HR but I know many women who have and they are just ignored.

That sucks. Women programming teachers can be awesome. I had a Russian woman teach me the programming fundamentals in college and she was awesome. The old guy I had in high school was so useless that he pretty much taught nothing, and made me think I'd have trouble programming in college. Nope, she made sure to actually teach us well. I can't imagine being being so insecure that you can't stand being taught by a woman. That's just crazy to me.
