If they're like a Bundesliga team where fans can part own the club then it's legitimate.

A loyal fanbase can be a (small) part of the reason for a team's success. It's tougher to build a great team when you're playing in a half-empty stadium and not selling merchandise well, plus the home crowd can provide a boost of morale.

I have no problem whatsoever with a sports fan saying that if they're actual fans and not just bandwagoners.

Never understood people that get so bothered by it. It's a short and simple way to show who your favorite team. If you refer to the team as "them, they, etc" then you're referring to your favorite team the same way you refer to other teams in the league.

No one says it thinking they're part of the team like the people who get bothered by the reference like to argue about

Yea a team doesnt exist without fans and no one Is saying they are part of the team directly, but fans feel an emotional connection to the team and it just makes more sense to say we instead being all formal and saying the team name every time. Who cares? Never understood why this bothered people...and its usually non sports fans that get bothered by it.

Can you make that claim though if you are a fan but never go to any of the games?

People saying it doesnt piss me off but I enjoy giving them shit for it like "we who? You didnt do shit but sit on the couch!"

Yea theres a reason that teams play so hard for home advantages...and a major part of it is the fan support.

Its a part. But there is also not having to travel and being used to weather conditions/tempatures if its open stadium.

Here's a pro-socializing tip for you guys:

Don't fucking make fun of people for insanely pedantic or frivilous reasons. Even if they pretend to think your "ribbing" is funny, 3 seconds after they stop talking to you they probably think to themselves "God, what a jackass". If someone wants to identify part of their identity with a sports team, let them. We all probably spend more time on a fucking dying video game board having unhealthy social interactions with trolls than these people spend on their sports team, probably having positive experiences with other sports fans at the same time.

Have some god damn self-awareness for once.

were you under the impression that ppl itt actually go on about this irl?

99.9999% of the shit i complain about on here i never say irl because it would be social suicide

That just shows you don't actually understand why your behavior is bad, just that you're trying to avoid consequences.
