Why does the left hate Israel so much? To the point where they make blatantly false statements about it such as it is an apartheid state (over 20% of Israeli citizens are Arabs and have the same rights as all other Israeli citizens), an ethnostate (Israel is a Jewish state, but it is wrong to think of Jews as a single race; there are many different Jewish ethnic groups from around the world because of diaspora (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jewish_ethnic_divisions), or that it is fascist (Israel was founded as a Jewish and democratic state, and to this day has a parliamentary government with multiple political parties, free elections, etc.)

It is definitely fair to question Israel's occupation of territories, and that is obviously a major issue in Israeli politics. But it is a much more complex issue than some people try to make it.

Israel is by far the most free nation in the middle east, objectively and is a bastion of Western values in a region that is generally anti-west.

multiple reasons:
geopolitical reasons such as having a friendly base in the middle east to launch military strikes from and having an ally there that is willing to assassinate people and do other horrific things that we love doing are some of the main ones

lobbyists in the US are also another reason. we have a corrupt legal bribery system that lots of people take advantage of, including pro israeli jewish interests

not to mention Israel is a place US corporations benefit from when it comes to testing weapons and drugs, because Israel has more lax laws on that stuff that our corporations wouldn't be able to do legally in the US

Many Americans believe that in order for the Book of Revelation to come to pass, Israel must exist as a literal nation state because it's mentioned a good deal of times in the prophecy. Personally I think that it's more likely that "Israel" as mentioned in Revelation refers to Christians (as an extension of the original Israelites, followers of God), rather than the literal Jewish Nation of Israel. Especially because Babylon does not literally exist anymore and will not again.

Several factors...

1) Israel was viewed as an important ally in the Cold War, as the USSR maintained friendly relations with Syria(which the current Russian Federation still maintains).

2) Racism. Ashkenazi Jews are (sort of) white, certainly "more white" than the Palestinians, Syrians, Egyptians, etc.

3) Israel has a democratic* government
*If you can call a system that systemically disenfranchises non-Jews "democratic"

4) Evangelical Christians in the U.S. believe the rebirth of the state of Israel and the construction of the Third Temple of Solomon on the Temple Mount(currently home to one of the holiest places in Islam, The Dome of the Rock, on the site where Muhammad is said to have ascended to Heaven) are necessary preconditions to Armageddon.

5) Israel is closely aligned with powerful lobbying groups in the U.S. such as AIPAC, which makes lavish campaign contributions to politicians who advance Israeli interests and holds prestigious conferences attended by top-level figures in both parties. To be fair, Israel is far from the only country to take advantage of the unique power money has over American politics.

6) The boiler-plate "Pro-Israel" position is not only the status-quo, default position, it is also a broadly bi-partisan one, an increasingly rare phenomena in American politics. Thus, most media outlets(many themselves influenced by pro-Israeli lobby) treat it as a sacred truth.

To answer your other question, I mean that Israel is a free democratic nation with elections like any EU nation, especially with the parliament system. The parliament system also means that the leader of the party with the most seats is the Prime Minister. In Israel that is Netanyahu, whose party (Likud) is center right to right wing (similar to the Republican Party in the US). So while Netanyahu is the head of Israel's government, he is not a totalitarian leader in any way. The Israeli parliament, which is made up of various political parties with various political views, passes the laws.

It's a combination of big money Israel lobbies throwing money around in a bipartisan manner and evangelical and born again christians being told that, as displayed in the bible, Israel are the people chosen by god and he will aid them in their time of need and strike down anyone who harms them.

It's a problem for both sides, but support among young liberals is steadily dropping so there might be hope for the future
