Passport, proof of residence, birth certificate, social security. Some states require 3 documents now for an ID

At least where i live bills count for proof of residence. Dont need the w4 or passport though. And i didnt need any of that for a drivers liscense which outside the driving test i assume is a lot like getting a renewal on a id. I may have needed my social security card but that was it. For my intial id though i needes social I wanna say birth certificate and 2 pieces of mail for proof of residence.

Depends on the state and what youre doing. If youre getting a federally complaint RealID you need proof of citizenship, social security card, and two proofs of residence.

I just did mine last week. Waiting for the plastic to show up. Hopefully before I fly to salt lake.

Yeah thats true in the realid. I got one myself I brought all that shit for getting my drivers liscense just in case. Was told i didnt need it but did if i wanted realid. And it not costing any extra said fuck it why not.

illinois only needs additional stuff if your also changing your address.

if you're just renewing and live at the same place, you just need the old license.

You need proof of:
1. legal name
2. date of birth
3. legal presence in the U.S.
4. Social Security Number
5. state principal residence.

A U.S. birth certificate takes care of (1)-(3), a Social Security card takes care of (4), and any two of the following documents take care of (5):

voter registration card
pay statement
utility bill
bank statement

All documents must be originals or certified (not notarized) copies.

A driver's license is only good for (2).

That's how things are in my state. Check your state government's website for exact requirements.

I don't have a bank account. I don't get ANY mail. really. Period.
I basically don't exist, aside from having a social security #.

Depends on the state. I just needed a passport and something else, I think. Then I got my new military ID, then went back and got my 7 years expired drivers license renewed... Some places just need two. And bills for proof of address...

Well it might take a hot minute but I went and signed up for this shit to help me find work at the community college and the college started sending me mail. Only at the beginning of a semester though. Not seriously suggesting that but yeah if I didnt have a bank account, that and thr rare credit card bs would be the only mail I get.

Generally if you have an existing REAL ID Act-compliant ID card or license, you won't need anything besides your existing card to renew, but if you're going from a non-compliant to compliant card, you'll need to show proof of identity, such as a birth certificate, passport or passport card, employment authorization document, or permanent resident card (green card), proof of your Social Security Number, such as an SSN card, W-2 or pay stub with full SSN, and two proof of residency documents, such as a rental or lease agreement, mortgage bill, utility bill, or employment, medical or school document. If you have changed your name, you may also need an original or certified copy of your name change decree, marriage certificate or divorce decree.

Most states have already made the switch, although a handful are still lagging behind, namely Kentucky, Maine, New Jersey, Oklahoma, and Oregon, who have until October of this year. REAL ID will be mandatory for accessing federal facilities, including airports, starting October 1, 2020. A passport or passport card, DHS trusted traveler card, DoD ID, or federally recognized tribal-issued photo ID can be used instead.

I wonder if Ill have to show all the same proof when I get my license in another state.

Hopefully my license shows up this weekend. My wife got her ID yesterday. We renewed on the same day.

Your existing card will probably fulfill the identity portion of the requirements, but you might need to supply new proof of residence documents.
