My thoughts:
I found the first episode to be extremely brutal and I was thinking the whole series might be a bit on the brutal side for my tastes, but then I was bummed because they clearly got notes from amazon after the pilot. Nothing is quite as brutal as the girl being hit in the pilot and the sexual assault in the pilot. And even though the tone was extreme for me at first it bothers me more that they would compromise their vision and soften it up.

The one thing that proved to me that they changed the tone from the pilot was that there are boobs and a dick in the first episode and there is no boobs or dick in the rest of the series. The show goes from a hard R to a soft R and it bothers me to see any show compromise it's vision to be more mainstream.

It seems doubly pointless because audiences will have to sit through that first episode anyway so anybody who would be turned off by it's brutality would already bail on the show.

What it felt like to me is after the first episode the world got like 30% less cynical and 20% less brutal. And there was something compelling about trying to be the good guys in this dark cynical world that's lost if you soften the edge.

It was still a good show for sure, but I found the slight tonal downshift to be a bummer. The show needs it's biting harsh edge to be maximally effective. And any producer who is like "let's not show boobs" is IMO too much of a prude to allow the show all the edge it needs.

Again good show though.

PS: What was up with that fly that flew by the characters a few times? I'm basically sure that wasn't an accident. I'm assuming there is some superhero that can turn into a fly or something that will be revealed in a later season, but if they wanted to be subtle about it they needed to make it less obvious and definitely less loud when it comes to the audio of it

Compared to the comics, everything was soften up.

They did a bit. It's still a hard edge show, but the pilot definitely has more of an edge than the rest of the series.

Still great show though.

That's a bummer, hopefully in season 2 they get more of the edge of the pilot back.

Even the pilot was soften up.
As an example... It was Homelander that convinced Starlight to give oral to him, A-train and Black Noir if she wanted to stay. Probably should have made her do the Deep as well if he wasnt stuck in an old diving suit.

in the airplane scene in the comics when the passengers rush to Homelander he yells for them to sit down and shut up so loud their ear drums explode and blood gushes out and they all go deaf. Also the plane they're on was one of the 9/11 planes in the comic.

Jesus Christ

While that would've been hard to watch, I still think they went a little too far in the other direction.

Yeah. Still good stuff though imo. The creator of the comics also did Preacher I think.

He hates super heroes so he made all his characters bad in this series and it's hilarious.

He at one point claimed it was an allegory for young comic creators being kept down by the old guard of creators.

While I like the comic, I love the changes they made, it somehow fit better than an exact adaption.
That said, I never expected that ending.
