56 y/o Trailer Trash, James Clairmont from Florida intentionally RAN his TRUCK over on a group of DUCKLINGS and the MOTHER DUCK near his mobile home in Largo as horrified people witnessed the incident!!

2 witnesses, one of whom is a child said they saw him slowing down at a speed before before accelerating and LAUGHING as he intentionally heads towards the ducklings playing in a POND with their mother as they tried screaming for him to stop

He hit 3 of the ducklings before fleeing the scene to his trailer park a street away

2 of the ducklings died on scene as one was rushed to a nearby animal hospital and was treated for broken bones

When questioned by police, he denied ever seeing the ducks and could not explain why there was BLOOD and DUCK FEATHERS on stuck on his tires

He appeared drunk and smelled of alchol according to police and had red eyes

Do you think this kind of animal cruelty should be a prison offense?

He probably wasn't in his vehicle at the time. Keep in mind that the scene of the crime is listed as being right near his mobile home and the witnesses -- who likely called the cops -- live in that same area. By the time they show up, he would have absolute plausible deniability because he could simply claim to have started drinking after he got home. And I'm not sure if they could even compel him to take a breathalyzer unless they spotted him either in his vehicle or exiting/entering it.

Unless they took video of the incident (and honestly even then), he could say he just got up and had a party last night, doesn't know who drove his truck but they had permission to go grab drinks/food etc.

And yeah, he could be drunk as a skunk and it wouldn't matter unless he was spotted behind the wheel and followed home by police, even a few minutes unobserved is enough to give plausible deniability.

I think he is going to duck those charges.

Most people stop to let the ducks go through; same with sandhill cranes (which are huge and can definitely mess up your car if you hit them). Despite what some may think, people here are really sensitive when it comes to hurting what they consider 'defenseless' animals, no matter what species.
