Death Stranding may not get GotY but it will definitely win a few awards. I hope it's good enough to win GotY you better deliver Kojima

I wouldn't count on Sekiro too strong

Dark Souls 3 got about the same reception as Sekiro did but got jack all for awards. Even lost Best RPG to a Witcher DLC

same thing happened with Nioh. Great reviews, but little to no actual awards

I'm still crazy skeptical that Death Stranding is even going to be good, but I feel like people have already decided it's going to be great just based on pedigree.

Actual GotY is DMC5 IMO, though FE3H is making a strong case for itself.

I feel like Death Stranding is going to be a bad game that everyone loves. It'll probably sweep writing/VA/maybe visual award categories but probably not GotYs.

Edit: that was kind of a dumb statement, I meant from a gameplay perspective I don't think it'll necessarily live up to other games like Sekiro and that'll hold it back

Sekiro has the various ingredients, but it's way too incremental of an upgrade over dark souls

if doom eternal smashes it out of the park I could see it getting some consolation awards for being snubbed in 2016

I dunno. I honestly don't blame awards for going to games with gargantuan production values. It's a celebration of the medium as a whole

Among currently released games, RE2 is definitely in the lead right now, well ahead of Sekiro. It's still the best reviewed game of the year and I have heard numerous industry types call it their game of the year, so that should translate into awards. If Death Stranding disappoints I wouldn't be surprised to see it take a ton. Let's not forget Doom Eternal or Astral Chain either.

Skeptical about Astral Chain too. Platinum games tend not to be award winners, other than Automata, and that had some factors that AC won't.

I think the experience and story will be downright amazing and probably confusing but it wont get Metal Gear Solid type love and reception so it will be deemed a flop in the eyes of those who despise Kojima.

Personally i cant wait to play it

Just scanning through the past history of The Game Awards, the only winners of any category that were remakes that I noticed were Samus Returns winning Best Handheld Game in 2017, and Metroid Zero Mission winning Best Handheld Game in 2004

Bayonetta 2 won a ton of awards, more than Nier, and that's probably the closest comparison to Astral Chain.
