Tom Shippey, the legendary Tolkien scholar is on board as consultant, and is working on behalf of the Tolkien Estate. John Howe, the artist for LOTR and The Hobbit films, plus a bunch of Tolkien books is also on board.

As long as it doesn't turned into a bloated disaster like the Hobbit movies it should be good. The books have more than enough material as it is. No reason to have filler.

I believe they said it was going to be set before the LotR movies (assuming the Hobbit is part of it). Something interesting had to have happened during that time, right? --- Time is a funny thing. This is how most adaptations should be made tbh.
