My goal is to lose 100 pounds by graduation, which (if my math is right) means losing about 1.1 pounds a week.

Im using a calorie tracking app, and that tells me I can eat about 1800 calories a day and lose the weight I need.

So anyway if you can lend me any advice, Id appreciate it. Things like, on a budget, what are some good foods I can buy? What are good exercise routines to start with? Etc.

Were doing this bro. were making this happen.

One of the things I did at the start of my lifestyle change was to review my food/drink intake and how much exercise/movement I was doing to use those calories. Since my job is mostly sedentary as I'm mostly sitting at a desk for eight hours, I shouldn't be eating a huge calorie-laden lunch like a ton of pizza or a heavy burger, unless I plan on exercising after work. If gym or running, carb and protein up 30 minutes-3 hours before exercising, along with drinking water throughout the day. If going home to binge Netflix or game, eat something simpler like a sandwich or salad.

https://www.self.com/story/what-a-registered-dietitian-says-you-should-eat-before-and-after-a-workout

Of course, everybody's body is different. Some have a fast metabolism and can burn through food quickly, whereas some take longer to process food.

Using a calorie counting app is very smart. As long as youre using that everyday and being patient enough with yourself for the days or weeks that you dont seem to be making progress, you should be able to achieve your goal.

Exercise shouldn't even be on your mind when you're at the level of needing to lose 100 pounds. Your full attention should be on radically changing your diet and losing weight. Exercise will come after.

Best thing you can do is to go to a 100% plant-based diet, all fruits and vegetables, and even then mostly just vegetables until you've lost most of the weight.

I find intermittent fasting easier, but I've never had to lose anywhere near that much weight.

Ehhh idk about that. Included in my tuition is membership to the rec center, so I figure I might as well use it to do some cardio or whatever. Ive never done weightlifting so Im too embarrassed to do that, but a treadmill seems easy enough.

Im going to do portion control and calorie counting, but Ill probably still eat meat. I really only eat chicken anyway, and thats maybe 2-4 times a week.

- Eat less
- Walk more

My bro lost weight due to the hiking/walks we have been doing. It's also a good way to free the mind. I enjoy being "lost" where there is very few people if any around. Lucky for me I live near a place called the peak districts so plenty of places to do that. Urban walks are just as effective.

NO SODA. NO SODA EVER. Shockingly sugary and a really hard eating habit to shake. Just stay away from it. If your primary drink is not water (or tea, I guess), then you are doing something wrong. Juice can be almost as sugary as soda, no joke; should only use it in smoothies. Milk is fatty. Drink WATER. Drink a LOT of water. You will feel less hungry, especially if you drink BEFORE you eat.

Easiest way to do this is to go vegetarian/vegan. Cuts a huge amount of stuff out of your diet that is fattening without you really needing to think about it, especially if you go vegan because that removes everything made with milk/eggs. No, it's not hard, and it will cut a MASSIVE amount of fat/cholesterol and (if you go vegan) sugar from your diet without you having to fuss overmuch about checking labels. I do admit that it is easier if you live in a city, though, because you have access to a wider variety of fresh fruits/veggies in that instance (I don't live in a city).

Get a rice cooker if you don't have one. Increase the amount of rice and beans you eat regularly. Double/triple your veggie/fruit portions. If you don't want to completely cut out dairy products, yogurt is a great thing to add to smoothies (I've also seen people suggest sweet potato but I cannot confirm as I haven't tried that). Use spices, especially with rice dishes. If you eat cereals, measure out portions; they are sugar-heavy and it is VERY easy to over-eat cereals. Make curries. Make chili. Make stuff you can throw into a slow cooker and leave.

I highly recommend picking one meal a day to just be a salad. Make a list of salad stuff you like and rotate out ingredients so you don't get bored. If you don't want to completely give up meat, this is a good place to put in your daily dose of meat with either chicken or fish, something light. Forcing yourself to only have meat as one ingredient in a salad will prevent you from over-portioning meat. Do NOT drown your salads in dressing. If you're using ingredients you like, you shouldn't need it.

Imo, the easiest form of exercise to work into your routine is either just going on walks or biking. Swimming is a good alternative but may not be viable depending on your economic situation and location. If you have trouble getting the motivation to do it on your own, try looking around for local groups that can exercise with you.

To go vegan? It can be very hard for some people. To take away possibly good chunk of their normal diet and change it to a bunch of other stuff. It can be hard. It's doable. But I would called it easy...

What's more important is actually sticking to a plan though. It's all good looking for a quick fix but unless he's happy with that change he won't stick to it and then he'll put the pounds back on. I still believe just eating less is the only answer needed. Then again I'm skinny so what do I know?

What's funny is that the most important thing I said wasn't about food at all. Cut soda. Drink water. Makes a MASSIVE difference. If you change nothing else about your diet, change that.

Go to the fit board
https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/boards/239-fitness-health

I lost a little over 100 lbs by doing Focus T-25 5 times a week and making more meals in my instant pot, virtually never eating out. I also seldom miss a workout, over the last year I missed 2 days and one of those times I made it up on my rest day. And look into Quest bars, they're kinda pricey, but they offer superb nutrition and are delicious! I love Birthday Cake and Peanut Butter Brownie Smash, and flavors like Maple Waffle and Blueberry Muffin are scary how spot on they are. Prob won't work for you, but it worked for me.

You're right. It's better for him to get a good plan that he can stick to. If they make him completely change his diet, it would be really easy for him to want a cheat day and break it. By changing his diet to a better weight loss diet that still can incorporate foods that he likes, he will hopefully be less inclined to break the diet, and should stick to it. Even if he doesn't lose the weight as fast, he's still losing weight. And will hopefully be able to tough it out.

Alright just made my first shopping trip with help from the internet and my gf. I got chicken, lots of broccoli and tomatoes and jalapeos and spinach. I bought water and a variety pack of tea (Ive never been a tea guy, but dropping soda is important). I got some good looking spices. And I got these 100-calorie cups of fruit yogurt that I plan to eat in the mornings.

I usually dont eat breakfast so Im thinking I might try the thing where I only eat during a certain time of day or whatever.

I've been doing P90x for the past three and a half years. I went hard for two rounds (6 months) and have casually maintained since.

Diet is the main thing to focus on if you're obese. Control your portions and don't eat anything you wouldn't imagine an athlete eating. Pop was the big one for me. You can switch to zero calorie pop but limit yourself on that, too.

I didn't have much weight to lose (20 pounds to get me at my comfortable 180 now) so most of my focus was on exercise. I'm in way better shape now.

drink lots of water. it's calorie-free and helps fill you up. (even try to program your mind to consider it a "snack" when you have the munchies.)

eat lots of meat and if possible vegetables. sausages, deli meat, steak, broccoli, green beans, etc. you can microwave frozen veggies in a few minutes.

if you do weight training, always eat lots of protein and drink lots of water afterward. you should feel like you're glowing as your muscles regenerate. (your muscles will be putting out tons of heat.)

also remember, you can't both lose weight AND gain mass. weight training will either minimize muscle-loss when on a caloric deficit, or else will minimize fat-gain when on a caloric surplus, but you can't do both at the same time. you get buff by switching back and forth. supposed to be that you should bulk first, because you can end up really really weak if you lose a ton of weight and didn't start out with much muscle to begin with. gaining muscle is the most important thing (though you can end up like me (moderately muscular but fat) if you never really do any proper cutting).
