Witch Doctor is back with a vengeance. That was a brutal fight, and they completely manhandled a top 4 bot from last season.

Yeah, they finally got that bot back in shape after that dreadful last season they had.

Was wondering what the hell was going on with science channel. They didn't even show episode 8... said it was for aug 7th, well I sat there aug 7th and it was no where to be found.

I wasn't on earlier and just managed to watch bots last night due to an awesome power outage of nearly 3 hours. Turns out a tree knocked power lines together and blew a transformer, so for about 20-30 mins could sit from the window and watch flaming sparks pour from a tree/line as a firetruck waited for the power company to sort it. It was much excitement. and happened right after bots.

I don't know why, but none of the fights super stuck to me. I'm sad to see breaker box yet again burn up and the nelly vs deep six fight had me instantly saying 'oh no...' because I knew it probably wasn't gonna go well for nelly, but totally didn't see that result happening. Though it did prove my one concern, that deep six can't really self right and even if it functions correctly it's going to send itself flying in reaction due to opposite effect.

Prior, during, etc the subzero fight they constantly called it subzero. Fight starts and my dad says 'eh it's not as fast' and I didn't fully understand why until it was the replay where they mentioned bronco and that's when I find out. "wait they aren't bronco?" ... He thought it was bronco the entire time, ignoring the 'subzero' everywhere. I know they look similiar and there was a joke about it, but I got to see the confusion first hand.

I'm very much a believer in Witch Doctor. Here's the video of them versus Tombstone in the offseason.

When they're on top of their game, they can definitely take damage and deal damage.

Yeah, Witch Doctor lacks a bit of consistency in their performances, but the general design of the bot with the offset vertical spinner is solid.

For that video posted above though, it looks like the guy operating Tombstone for that fight made some critical errors early on: don't just smash weapon to weapon, avoid hitting the side of the battle box as you just damage yourself(a lesson Gigabyte had to relearn this last episode), watch the angle of attack as well to predict the direction of reaction.

On the other hand, sloped wedges are a specific counter to spinners. They redirect the direction of kinetic energy and cause instability in the attacker, i.e. sends them flying through the air to careen off parts of the battle box. Even then, Witch Doctor was fairly chewed up when the batteries failed on Tombstone.

pretty awesome stuff! i wish i had known about it back then.

I knew about BattleBots in the early 2000's when it was on TV, and I remember giving it a couple episodes before saying "nah I like the way Robot Wars does it better" and didn't watch it again until the current reboot. Funny enough, one of the episodes of BattleBots that I watched back then had an appearance from one of my favorite Robot Wars bots, Bigger Brother.
