I do not like raw steak, I do not like dry steak. I like my steak pink inside, but grey around the edges. Alittle bloody, but not squishy so it's hard to cut.

The problem is, when you order a steak at most steak houses, they have no-inbetween. You get it raw or close, or you get it freaking turned into rubber (if not actually burnt!).

So I mainly just BBQ my own steak, where I can actually ensure that it's done enough to be cut with a knife, while still having juice on the inside.

Also, it's freaking WAY cheaper.

Especially if you buy during and based on sales that are going on. IE, 6.99 for rib eye's or 8.99 for boneless rib eyes right now (this week). I can get 2 pounds of Rib eyes (boneless), which is more then enough for me for $18.

Or I can go to almost any place that serves steaks and pay that much for less then 1 pound AND not even get it done to my preference.

The choice, is pretty obvious.

Even things like a brazillian steakhouse, where you can eat all the steak/lamb etc you want, costs about $50......and again, it's not done the way I like (most of them serve them VERY raw in fact.

So I could get over 5 pounds of boneless rib eye steaks (pretty much all edible) for the same price. I don't eat nearly that much anymore and honestly 1 pound is enough for me for a meal now adays.

Which means I could eat 10 meals for the price of that 1 meal at the steakhouse, and.....the food would be better, to my preference etc.

Also the rib eyes are generally the best at the brazillian steak houses, they have bacon wrapped filet mignon but they are small, and not as tasty/juicy as the rib eyes. The other thing that is good is the slow cooked beef roast....but....it's very fatty, and ALL of their meats are extremely salty (so even eating 2 pounds is very hard due to the excessive salt.

End result, it just makes sense to make your own steaks pretty much 99.9% of the time.

Same is even more true for chicken though, since you can usually buy boneless breasts/thighs for only $1.50 a pound (or less with sales). For instance right now I can get them for $1.50 and then get 20 off the order (min of 75$), meanwhile they have others that are 20% the entire order or 10$ off an order of $50 or more etc.

That can basically get your chicken down to around $1 a pound, it freezes well, and it's WAY cheaper then going out to eat.

I generally do crimini mushrooms myself. Get em pre-sliced. Very yummy with a garlic butter sauce that also flavors the steak.

Medium Well, but I've been cooking it closer to Medium lately and that's been good, too. Would never go rarer than that, though.

Made steak this week, actually. Grilled it to Medium, then cut it up into small pieces and cooked it a bit more in a pan w/ mushrooms and teriyaki sauce.

Cooked. Preference for non dripping but can take it with a bit less time. Wouldn't touch it on the other end of the spectrum beyond sticking it in a frying pan.

Not quite a vegetarian, but cut down to fish and poultry and not much of. I'd cut down to lacto/ovo vegetarian but not really feasible.

And do not eat beef or pork or any meats beyond poultry or fish.

I used to like them rare as rare can be when I ate them though. Also have eaten it completely raw.

I have an outdoor broiler that gets to 1500F I use that to cook rare with a good char on it. in the drip pan I put butter, rosemary, and garlic so it mixes with the dripping and make a Sorta-but-not-really sauce.

I prefer to cook my own steaks because most steak houses take what should be a tasty cut and smother it with spices and crap so all you're tasting is the seasoning. I do my steaks extremely simple, just a light sprinkling of Lawry's seasoned salt (which is basically salt, sugar, paprika, turmeric, onion powder and garlic powder) then toss it on the grill.

You say that and then use something far more than just salt and pepper.....
