I'm an old millennial and this holds true to me but not the average millennial. Most of us are broke.

My current savings is at about $55,000 but I had to pay the price of being in the military and deploying to get there.

Ill at least have a nice cushion to sit on when I get out next year.

If I hadn't spent the last year paying off $138,000 in student loans, I might have something in my bank

Then they're doing it wrong.

I have around $50k in 401k and Roth IRA and $125k equity in my house, where it is going to appreciate instead of lose purchasing power to inflation.

That's where I was about 3 years ago. Feels good man.

I have 1 more semester to go in college, and then it's off to the workforce. Thanks to the GI Bill and deployment money, no debt.

You'd still be in debt though. At least now you have one less bill in your life.

No.

Many of us have a good amount of savings like TC stated while also having a good amount in 401Ks and investments and creating equity in their property.

I have enough to buy a car if the old piece of junk I have now dies, but I'm not going to leave 30k just sitting there.

30K isn't a lot of money though. I don't trust Uncle Sam or the financial system 100% to throw all my money at them.

Even the crash last decade wasn't enough that you would have come out better with a piggy bank/savings acct over any five year period including it.

not necessarily. you really ought to have 6 months or more of living expenses available in liquid assets (cash). mine is about $20k but i can see someone needing $30k or even more depending on CoL and family situation.
