You could cut out at least half of the full Pokedex and have almost no impact on the OU and UU competitive scene. But yeah, Sun and Moon had 800 Pokemon. Edit: the Trapinch line is actually my favorite gen 3 line, but Linoone is like a staple Pokemon when it comes to Pokemon Emerald. It was a fake limitation and the game was better for it, at least in the beginning. People had to come up with new strategies with what they had instead of porting over old pokemon day 1.
