Just completed Bloodstained to 100% map completion, beat all the bosses and whatnot. Decided to finally try Nier.

What to expect? Any beginner tips?

After getting the 1st ending, take a short break before continuing (like 1 day or so)

Try and get the auto item-pickup chip, asap

Dont start on hard mode ( I think you can switch difficulties). Dying on the 1st level can waste up to 40 mins of time

The game made me feel sad for robots. Fucking robots. Seriously.

The combat is exceptional, it reminds me a bit of a game on 360 called Ninety Nine Nights.

Uhhh.. so I lost the fight barely against the twin saw blades and I have to start from the beginning again? That's very deflating.. idk if I wanna do that all again.

Ya'll should've told him he could spam dodge. The biggest reason people die against the sawblades is they misunderstand how invincible the dodge mechanic is.

I'll give that one more go, I felt like I was lacking a dodge or roll or something, I don't think it was mentioned up until that point.

Yeah there's a reason they said don't try the harder difficulties until you're out of the intro area, lol. But yeah, you have the dodge roll (one of the triggers I believe) so use that to your advantage.

After the intro you get the ability to save almost anywhere as long as you activate certain terminals, so it becomes much more manageable. As a tip with saving: you can go to the pause menu and save as long as you're in an activated terminal's range. You can see that on the map.

Yeah I think I lost it 2-3 times. It is indeed very annoying to have to re-do, but it's so worth it. It's a fabulous game.

Nah, i'll usually give a game 10+ hours before I decide if i'm gonna keep on with it. I'm likely going to stick this one through, and it's a digital copy regardless.

Glad you're enjoying it now. Since this is an action RPG, look for sidequests you can do. Some of them expand the lore in interesting ways and you may even get scenes you could've missed by going off the beaten path. I know I have.

If you are already enjoying it this much then just wait. You haven't seen anything yet. You're in for a ride. Nier Automata is probably of the best games of 2017.

Yep, this is like Bayonetta if they removed the dodge spam penalty and it had more i-frames. It's super busted. One touch death mode can be cheesed by just dodging the whole time and holding shoot. Strangely there are a select few attacks that cannot be dodged in the game. But I think it is just a few boss fights and that is it.
