This is a topic to rate the contest strength of potential newcomers in the current contest environment.

I will pick the characters to rate and discuss for each day from user nominations - whoever the 3 most nominated characters are at that time. If there are more than 3 I will pick randomly. You can nominate any number of characters at any time, but you cannot nominate the same character twice.

All characters who were present in the 2018 Character Battle will NOT be eligible. Otherwise you can nominate any character that has appeared in video games; even comic book characters. This will exclude real-life athletes who have only appeared in long running sports series, however I will accept those who have their own games such as Shaq. I will accept nominations for iconic gaming duos too, if both members of said duo are named in the title of a game (Banjo-Kazooie, Sam & Max Hit the Road, etc).

Each day will have a separate topic, and nominations will carry over. As far as actually rating the character's contest strength; I ask that users rank a characters potential strength with one of the following qualifiers - LAW Fodder, Low Fodder, Mid Fodder, High Fodder, Fodder Line, Low Midcarder, Midcarder, High Midcarder, Near Elite, Elite, LAW Tier (capable of beating Link). I will average all the ratings given to a character to come up with their final ranking. I have included a highlighted entrant from Character Battle X on each tier of the strength rankings below, to provide a baseline for each.

Note that LAW Fodder is meant to be a tier reserved for the weakest possible characters to put into a contest. A character will only be placed there if at least 3/4ths of the voters for that day agree on the LAW Fodder rating, and no ratings above Low Fodder are given. If either of those conditions are not met, the character will not be eligible for the LAW Fodder tier.

not sure how to feel about Ripto, torn between low fodder and a very temporary mid fodder because he was recently in the title of a game that got a successful re-release. probably still low fodder overall though.

I think Amy could pull off being mid fodder based on her general recognizability, and people don't seem as sour on her as they used to be

no idea about Marche, is he the one with the awful character design?

I will say Mid Fodder for Ripto. The same boost that many classic 3D platformer characters benefited from can help Ripto too. It helps that he has recurred in several games.

I say High Fodder for Amy. It might be overly hopeful, but Tails looked decent in CBX and I think a lot of the hate for Amy specifically has faded.

Marche I had to look up a bit since I'm not familiar with FFT Advance. His design doesn't look bad, but it isn't particularly impressive either. But his game seems to be squarely in the shadow of the original FFT. Marche has never made a contest either, which I think is a big point against him. Have to go with Low Fodder.

I concur with Zen about Ripto and Amy. The former only had a notable role in one of the three PSX Spyro games, so he's not going to get as big a nostalgia boost as the likes of Spyro, and that also leaves him starting very low. As for Amy, while she's not as hated anymore, I still wouldn't exactly say she's a well-liked character, and Team Sonic overall has looked no better recently than circa 2006, when she was also Mid Fodder.

Gauging Marche is difficult, since 2004, when FFTA was undoubtedly in its honeymoon phase, is the last time we got a read on him or his game. Given how FFTA looked quite respectable back then, as well as the power of his affiliation, I'm going to unconfidently say Mid Fodder.

Ripto (Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage!) - Low fodder. Only played the first two games but based on those nobody from Spyro outside of Spyro is going to be worth anything at all. If not for Ripto's name being in the title of the second game (only for the North American release though) and the recent remake, I'd go LAW Fodder.

Marche Radiuju (Final Fantasy Tactics Advance) - Low fodder. I don't think people have ever really liked this guy; it's not for nothing those "Marche was the villain" threads keep popping up. And he's had nothing (or at least nothing that matters) since his original game in 2003. I don't think FFTA has stood the test of time as a game people care much about, either.

Amy Rose (Sonic series) - Mid fodder. The hate has died down but I feel you generally need to be actually liked to get to high fodder. Don't think that's a bar she generally clears.
