Besides the antagonist being hilariously over the top in episode one, it kind of sucks. Theres like one or two cool moments. It adds to the overall experience once you hit part 2 where it actually gets good though. Part 1 is also super short so its nbd to force through.

A lot of people say you should watch it, and I know I'm going to be in the minority, but it's honestly not that vital. It's poorly written and paced and Araki hadn't yet figured out the things that make Jojo great beyond a few glimpses of greatness here and there. I started with it and don't dislike it all that much, but almost everyone I tried to get started on Jojo with Phantom Blood bounced right off unlike hopping into Part 2.

If you're not enjoying it after a few episodes watch a recap of important things like Hamon and Dio and move on to Battle Tendency

Yes but do it in English for season one.

Honestly I love how they do the over the top English accents, I love the entire season 1 dub. The second season, which is the 3rd part, is where the dub dips down in quality quite a bit, a long with losing out on a lot of musical references because of copyright reasons.

Also this. Part two has the best JoJo, and I honestly love his dub voice. And the guy who does Speedwagon is choice. Every time he excitedly yells 'Jojo!' And exasperatedly explains to him the situation at hand it kills me.

Nah. The dub did great. Lots of fantastic casting choices. Patrick Seitz as Dio is fantastic, Keith Silverstein as Speedwagon, it was excellent.

I just watched he first couple episodes and wasn't impressed yet. Good to know that's the weakest part, so I'll probably continue. I did laugh seeing where the "It was me, Dio!" meme came from, though.

Really? To me the Japanese season one just doesn't work to my ears. It just sounds like every other anime in existence. The dub had its own unique charm. It is very over the top and a bit silly, but that is what makes Jojo fun. It's one of the only dubs I've seen make an effort to give the characters accents somewhat fitting their status. Jonathon sounds like an over the top gentleman, and just everything about Speedwagon is perfect. And the word changes end up working really well too. I loved in the sub when Speedwagon calls Dio a pile of puke when he meets him, but the way he says he can sniff out the bad ones, and that dio is as rotten as they come with his exaggerated accent is too hilarious in the dub version.

But I don't care for Jotaro's dub voice really, or older Joseph. Young Joseph was perfect, but the older one just didn't sound like he was even trying to tie it into the first voice. Part 4 had a pretty good dub though.

It was hilarious when Kira says 'rock hard cock' instead of just boner. And the bleep on the Toonami version came out of nowhere and made it even more hilarious.
Although every time he says deadly queen instead of killer queen a part of me dies inside.

This is a fact.

There is no emulating the magnificent Engrish and Engrish reactions that give the show a personality unparalleled by its English counterpart. Not to knock on the English VA's or say they're bad, but the English casting just doesn't hold up to the personalities that the JP, specifically Dio's, Joseph's and Jotaro's, actors bring.

Yeah don't hold right into season two, it gets a lot of love and had the most memes, but it is my least favorite part so far.
Part two felt the most unique with the essence of JoJo, and part 4 had a mix of charm in with the stand system from part 3.

a friend of mine who started watching around when I did is watching it dubbed and its crazy how many little references get missed in the dub. The voicework to me just sounds better in the sub too, especially once part 3 comes around

The engrish is great, but some of the word choices and descriptions in the dub are hilarious in their own way. Here is the part where Speedwagon sees Dio for the first time I talked about earlier, I didn't get the words right when I explained it, but I still love it.

They are both good in their own way, mostly for me it is whether I want the over the top Engrish or the over the top accents and word choice.

Part 1 is pretty important for part 2 and 3 so I'd say you should watch it. It's not long, has one of the worst JoJos in the series, but has some of the best side characters. Its definitely a different feel than the rest of the parts though.

I 100% disagree. All three had some damn near perfect casting. Especially Joseph. Joseph's dub VA is perfect.

Key word there is "near". Near perfect while the JP ones are perfect. I will concede they're good VA's. I don't knock on dubs to knock on them. However the JP casting is perfection. Especially when you get to Joseph and his amazing Engrish reactions and how he says the n word as he runs away. Fantastic.

The first 3 episodes of Part 1 are fun. After that it turns into a VERY generic action adventure story. The final episode picks it back up, though.

Part 2 is significantly better, definitely the peak of Jojo.

It would actually be the other way around, JoJo was a thing before Castlevania, which probably was influenced by it to a degree. Street Fighter was definitely influenced by JoJo. I think the manga started in 1986 if I remember right. And the Victorian era plus vampire stuff is only in part 1, which is only 9 episodes I think. After that it starts to make more sense why it is called a bizarre adventure. Part two, which is the most of season 1, gets into some maximum bizarre stuff.

Edit: Nvm, I was wrong. The first Castlevania came out in 86, and the first part of JoJo was in 87.

Yeah that's pretty much how it goes. Season one is just there for a few memes and getting to know the base of characters.
