The connection is definitely working because I can play the PSP if its plugged in. And the light will even sometimes go from green to orange, which indicates it thinks its charging I believe. But when I go into the system settings, it doesn't detect the battery.

This was a problem when I got it, too, but I 'fixed' it by doing the paper trick -- basically you fold up a piece of paper under the battery to ensure it gets a good connection. That worked for months but I set it aside for a while and now it isn't helping.

Do I just need to buy a new battery maybe? Or is it probably the connection on the PSP side that's borked?

Short the battery (outer pins) with a 4v LED, until it goes out.
PSP batteries are really bad about getting badly out of sync between the actual charge and what it thinks its charge is.

Thanks. I'm gonna have to remember this if it happens to me, I still play my PSP from time to time.

Thanks, I think that might be it then. It was charging the day that it died, and the battery said it was fully charged. But then it died while I was playing it and I haven't been able to charge the battery since

This. They are notorious for constantly losing grip. I was able to Jerry rig it with tape for awhile but even after that it stopped working.
