Genealogy of the Holy War has one of my favorite video game stories of all time. It really does depend on the game tbh.

On some level I kinda blame New Mystery of the Emblem for how Fates turned out, specifically with regards to how basically every character idolizes the Avatar. Couldn't even get to New Mystery's title screen without it kissing Kris's ass. If I was an FE3 fan I probably would've been infuriated tbh.

Some of them do. From the ones I've played, Blazing Sword(i.e. Fire Emblem for the GBA) has the best, IMO. It's very well-layered and has some complexity without losing sight of the stakes.
Not all of them are good though: in fact, Fates is downright horrible, and Shadows of Valentia aggressively idiot-boxes Celica. And Radiant Dawn idiot-boxes....everyone.

Yeah, that was really grating in that, but somehow Fates was worst, because Corinne's characterization was all over the place(you might suggest that the My Unit in NMotE didn't have a character, and you would be right. That was somehow better, if only a little).
Why, it's almost like Fates was written by several different writing teams! Oh hey, what do you know, it was

Yeah, there are a handful of Fire Emblem games with really good plots and some that are okay, but most of them are dumb.

Pretty much this. I haven't played 4-5 and only played 1-3 through their DS/3DS remakes, but the ones I've played range from great stories (the two Elibe games and the two Tellius games) to decent (Sacred Stones, Awakening, Shadows of Valentia) to stale (Shadow Dragon and New Mystery) to just horrifically bad (all three routes of Fates).

If they got the Shadows Of Valentia treatment and got a remake with some new features to make the game a bit easier, then sure. But if the original games are anywhere near as ass-destroyingly difficult as I've heard people say they are, I don't think I could beat them at all even if I wanted to.

Imo, as long as they keep the rewind mechanic in from now on, the games won't be nearly as frustrating.

I do hope they remake 4&5 and finally bring them over. They're much more interesting than the Marth games, and Shadows of Valentia finally proved IntSys could do it right.
After that, I hope they remake 7&6, in that order, so you can import clear data from the latter to modify the kids, because that actually makes sense in that context. And also that they make 6 good.

I'd be fine with the "casual" no perma-death setting introduced in Awakening being a permanent addition from now on. It still gives plenty of challenge for each individual chapter, but there's less time wasted save-scumming since losing 1-2 characters in a battle doesn't ruin you in the long run.

God yes. A combined Blazing/Binding Blade remake is basically my dream Fire Emblem game. I could imagine different features and twists in Binding Blade's story being affected by what you do in Blazing Blade, stuff like:

- Roy can use Dragonstones if you A-supported his father Eliwood with Ninian.
- Lugh and Raigh get slightly increased stat growths if you leveled their mother Nino high enough.
- You can prevent old Hector from dying (instead he's just severely wounded) early in Binding Blade by clearing a certain side chapter during his story in Blazing Blade, then you can recruit him really late in Binding Blade if you reach another certain side chapter. Similar thing with recruiting old Eliwood in Binding Blade: if you reach a certain side chapter in his story and carry it over, you can recruit him in Binding Blade's story the same way.

That would be amazing.

Genealogy is one of the easier games in the series. Definitely easier than Radiant Dawn Part 1, maybe even easier than Path of Radiance due to mounted units being at their strongest in this game. First few numbered chapters might have some tricky parts, but it's totally smooth sailing after dealing with the Cross Knights in Chapter 3, especially if you have optimal pairings for the Gen 2 units.

As for Thracia, I haven't actually played that one myself yet. From what I've heard though it's mostly difficult because of map design. All stats cap at 20 in this game so stat inflation isn't really a thing. Of course, this one's a midquel to FE4 so you definitely need to play that one first. So I guess the TLDR is, uh, at least play Genealogy. Whoever said that game is hard is probably on something and should not be trusted.

My problem with casual is that it fundamentally changes the way you look at your units. Since they revive at the end of battle you can use them as cannon foder to wittle down enemy units.
The rewind mechanic I feel is the perfect balance. You still have to take care not to lose units, but if you get screwed by RNG or you made a couple of bad moves you don't have to restart the whole battle.

This is all from my perspective, I'm glad Casual mode let's a lot more people enjoy the series.
