My mom called this the "Sheldon cooper problem" after the big bang theory character. It starts with an innocuous thing (if a rudely phrased one). Don't sit in his spot. It isn't that important and it's easier to give in than to fight. Then the next demand comes along and it's again easier to not fight it. And another, and another.

BBT is exaggerated for comedic effect, but it was easy to see a pattern of enabling a spoiled overaged child that kept pushing those boundaries leading him to essentially control the lives of those around him.

Without a laugh track it's the recipe for an abusive relationship. We aren't there yet, but I'm hardly going to keep quiet until we hit an Orwell level issue. As is, I'm definitely going to call out what seems at best a stupid waste of energy, and at worst, another exercise in seeing if you can get people to jump through crazier and crazier hoops.

Yes, it takes hard work and a lot of time to solve the big issues. But this is a small issue that takes very little time and almost no resources to tackle, and could have a large positive effect later on.

The $600 number is a farce. Think of all the meetings leading up to this, all those fat paid government folks sitting around discussing it. Then there's the fact some secretaries will have to spend hours going through and changing the verbiage, then reviews of that and more corrections and so on.

I find this strange more then anything. It doesn't bother me, I just don't really see the point. You're not even sparing people's feelings. Who cares about manholes enough to get their feelings hurt over it?? I can't imagine anyone like that exists.

It's just a pointless change that nobody actually cares about. These things are always something 1% of the population actually wants changed, but we're catering to them out of some perceived benefit to mankind.

It doesn't really matter at the end of the day what they're called, but it's the capitulation that is the issue.

Probably labor. It's all digital these days, but someone has to go through already overly verbose documents to make all the changes because find and replace will be guaranteed to make a few errors.

I like the fact the shorthand terminology for humans seems to be offensive nowadays, but whatever. If it stops the few people who got bitthurt over the terminology from complaining, it doesn't really impact me in any way.
