Dragon Quest Builders 2 is a quintessential example of a great sequel. It takes everything that's fun about the first game and adds more of the good stuff while removing the mechanics that didn't work the first time around. It's slow to really get started, but once it starts rolling, you never want to stop digging, building, and fighting. If you're curious about the Dragon Quest Builders series on any level, Dragon Quest Builders 2 is a good jumping-on point.

Hrm. Got my copy a day early and it's great, but my mate's picked up a copy too, because we were gonna play it co-op. Except, I'm 4 hours in and I haven't unlocked co-op yet. And apparently when you do unlock co-op, it's only for the central 'hub' kingdom you can build and not for the campaign islands, which are single-player only.

Sure I'll enjoy it on my own, but a bit of a bummer nonetheless.

I'm so excited! I finally got around to playing the first one earlier this year and just fell in love it with. And this sequel looks to improve on just about everything! Sprint button yeessss!

Btw Jon of Gamexplain gave it a "Likes-a-lot" which is really good for their scoring system.

Guys my excited has been hampered a bit. I just found out that the Switch version only targets 30fps instead of 60 like the first game. I was willing to accept the lower resolution and slight graphical downgrade compared to PS4 but not in exchange for performance. Especially since I hear the Switch version struggles a bit. And sub 30fps is pretty yuck.

Ok but I also just learned that the attack button on PS4 is set to triangle for some reason? That sounds just weird and awkward. It's on Y(the equivalent of square) on Switch though.

I just don't get why they didn't go with 720p again so it could have a more stable framerate. :/

I ended just getting the Switch version. I already had it preordered and paid for, I'm biased towards getting things on Switch, I played the original on Switch and like to keep a series to the same console, and I prefer the controls so that's that. I'll just deal with the performance; everyone says it's fine so I'll deal!

I'm just excited to actually get to playing it!

Incidentally, does anyone know if there's a bonus for having the original on PS4? The Switch version explicitly states there's some unlocks if you have DQB1 save data, but I can't find any reference to it on PS4.
