This is a topic to rate the contest strength of potential newcomers in the current contest environment.

I will pick the characters to rate and discuss for each day from user nominations - whoever the 3 most nominated characters are at that time. If there are more than 3 I will pick randomly. You can nominate any number of characters at any time, but you cannot nominate the same character twice.

All characters who were present in the 2018 Character Battle will NOT be eligible. Otherwise you can nominate any character that has appeared in video games; even comic book characters. This will exclude real-life athletes who have only appeared in long running sports series, however I will accept those who have their own games such as Shaq. I will accept nominations for iconic gaming duos too, if both members of said duo are named in the title of a game (Banjo-Kazooie, Sam & Max Hit the Road, etc).

Each day will have a separate topic, and nominations will carry over. As far as actually rating the character's contest strength; I ask that users rank a characters potential strength with one of the following qualifiers - Low Fodder, Mid Fodder, High Fodder, Fodder Line, Low Midcarder, Midcarder, High Midcarder, Near Elite, Elite, LAW Tier (capable of beating Link). I will average all the ratings given to a character to come up with their final ranking. I have included a highlighted entrant from Character Battle X on each tier of the strength rankings below, to provide a baseline for each.

Garfield is very recognizable and gets the joke vote, but also a lot of people seem to genuinely hate him so I'd think high fodder is about right

Iron Man is probably low midcarder right now but I think that will drop after the high of the infinity saga wears off. before the MCU he was nothing and eventually he will return to being that way. Right now though there's a Spider-Man movie in theaters where the one of the main plot threads is about Iron Man which is fucking nutso

People seem to care about Motoko or at least they pretended to when Scarlett Johnannson was cast as her and people got defensive about it. I dunno she has titties and is pretty recognizable, but I also don't know how much people care to vote for her. mid fodder?

sorry for the triple post but if you could get someone artistically inclined and have them draw a lovecraftian garfield horror fighting link and then submit it to r/imsorryjon with a link to the match he could potentially do a good amount of damage. not like a lot, especially with the anti-rallying measures, but he could maybe be a midcarder or some shit.

like that would probably never happen and I'm not changing my vote for him but I guess the rallying potential is there? you get 4chan on it too and it could get bad. hell, i bet jim davis would tweet about it if he even understands what the fuck is even happening.

i think people are underestimating iron man, there's a thread on the movie board right now where people are pissed that marvel is maybe passing iron man's torch as the face of the MCU to Spider-Man. think about how nuts it is that people are upset about spider-man getting to be the face of a marvel property over iron man.

i'm not saying he'll be strong forever but right now? maybe more than fodder.

I agree with High Fodder for Garfield. He'll get some joke votes and is a character everyone knows, but I feel few care much for him on Gfaqs.

I say that Iron Man is a Midcarder. He is arguably at his peak right now, and will be playable in the upcoming Avengers game. So he won't be fading out of relevancy yet, and I don't see him dropping below the fodder line when he does either.

Mid Fodder seems good for Motoko. Maybe if she got into a contest in the mid 2000s she could have been stronger. I don't think the live action movie helps.

I agree with half_silver about all three. Garfield and Motoko for the reasons Zen mentioned, and Iron Man because I feel like much of GameFAQs genuinely likes and cares about the MCU in general and Iron Man in particular, especially in the past few months.

I think that the chances of a non-gaming subreddit taking interest in a Gfaqs contest are very low. So I don't think we have to worry about rally potential for characters who did not originate in games like Garfield.
