If she was played by a black actress, the people defending the casting would argue that it's her gender, not her skin color that is integral to the story.

you're trying too hard

Not at all. It's exactly how they would argue. Because to them it's more about fighting racists who attack the casting than intellectual honesty. Ends justify means, etc.

that dont mean we cant critique the man on some of his opinions in fact it is down right insulting to the man to not do that

You absolutely should criticize everything the man said, especially when he said Kingdom of Heaven wasn't a shit film, but the focus on videogames has nothing to do with 99... wait no, 100% of the body of his work and is only done by people without an interest in his actual work and who are basically lobbyists for the video games is art acceptance movement. It's more of a red herring than communism.

he expressed his video on video games as an art i am allowed to critique his view on that

once again i love every thing the man did for films he deserves his fame for it but like almost every human in history his views did age

Surprised disney showed some restraint and didnt cast a black woman as mulan

why would they when the movie is set in CHINA there where no black people in ancient china

they cast a chinese woman to play a iconic chinese character from a chinese fable who may or may not have been a real person (im in the camp she is not a real person but the fable is based on a real person or persons)

Same reason a mermaid that lives deep underwater with limited light has black skin

Sunlight makes a person become african american? What? lol

Dont tell me you dont know why african people typically have dark skin as opposed to europeans

so you have ignored every thing people have said about the little mermaid thing you just want to strawman

you know damn well what the difference is you just want to justify your own issues and project them on every one else

Show me proof that there are no black people in ancient China.

you want proof that there where no black people in china in 386536AD

i am not your history teacher im not going to explain the many many things you clearly need to know about human history to you

Only a racist would have a problem with diversity.

No, but people who live in lower-light environments will tend to eventually develop paler skin tones. It's why Europeans evolved white skins after dark skinned humans migrated north from Africa.

That poster is extending that logic to people, or merfolk, who would live in a low-light environment like underwater.

in the part where shes training with other soldiers looks like she in disguise

maybe the reveal wont be near the end of the movie this time or she loses it during a fight and shes was only seen by their enemies

This is a movie about mermaids, magic and talking fish. Trying to apply real world logic to this is stupid and people are only bringing up this point because they're shook to their core over the fact that Disney is making a the main character of a kids movie black. Its especially silly because most of these whiners were never going to watch it in the first place

Depends on how deep you go.

Apparently at the deepest levels, they tend to be pale red or cream colored.

At the upper and mid levels, they tend to be darker blues on top and white-silver on bottom. But there is a part lower where they can be black or dark red.

Regardless, I don't know that furless mammals and fish follow the same rules regarding sunlight.

It doesn't look too bad. Casting, costumes, and the sets are great, but the movie looks too serious. Almost like it might be boring because of that. It needs Mushu and Eddie Murphy. I was expecting him to pop up with a joke and break the tension, would've been perfect. I think with how advanced CGI is these days, the dragon would've looked great.
