At that time the Bank of Canada released a press release asking people to stop spocking the Canadian $5 bill, featuring former prime minister Wilfrid Laurier but the activity hasnt ceased, causing it to resurface in the news again more recently. Unlike in many countries it is actually not illegal to deface Canadian currency by spocking it but such currency carries the risk of being refused by merchants for fear of being counterfeit. --- Que sera, sera.
