Shouldn't be too bad if you hit up Aldi.

Get some veggies, some fruit, some ramen, some eggs and chicken, you should be golden.

We spend about $40/wk on groceries and there are three of us. Of course, one of us mostly eats formula, which we don't count under grocery.

You're in luck, because you can actually cook lots of stuff really simply.

Plain steamed broccoli (or boiled if you don't have a steamer basket and can't spare a buck for one at a dollar store) is perfectly fine. Bake chicken breast in the oven 15-20 minutes at 450, cut it open to make sure the pink is gone.

Bam, there's dinner. Hopefully you have some seasonings in the cabinet to experiment with, and if you don't, it still works even if it's a tad bland.

Mix of all that was said.

Ramen+pieces of rotisserie chicken+fried eggs.

I'm making macaroni elbow soup with beef broth and random freezer meat right now. Plan to add in fried eggs on top and sesame oil for the aroma.

cheap ideas:

can of chicken or tuna
some frozen vegetables (preferably stew vegetables, or something like peas/carrots/green bean)
some cans of cream of broccoli/mushroom/celery
egg noodles

e-z casserole, and nothing costs more than $2-3 dollars

make pasta
throw in alfredo instead of red sauce, since it's higher calorie and will probably fill you up more
get a bag of frozen broccoli

check the SNAP recipe database for ideas.

Get inexpensive bagged rice, you can stretch that across 5-6 meals easily. Canned or pouched tuna is very filling and has a lot of protein.

I can't cook anything more complex than scrambled eggs

Do you have a knife? If you take some meat (probably chicken because it's cheapest) and vegetables, you can just cut them up into small pieces, and boil it in a pot with instant ramen. You can also add an egg for extra protein or to make it more filling.

If it were me, I'd get:

-a cheap 10 pack of instant ramen
-about 3-4 pounds (total, not each) of chicken, pork, and beef
-carrots
-a head of cabbage
-onions
-lettuce
-cherry tomatoes
-a dozen eggs
-white bread
-cheap cheese and cold cuts
-butter and maybe jam for toast

I would then cut up the meat into small pieces, separate into 8 portions and freeze it. Toast and sometimes an egg for breakfast, sandwich and maybe a salad for lunch, ramen mixed with meat, cabbage, onions, carrots and an egg for dinner.

You should be able to get enough of that to last 8 days for $20-30 in any part of the country. That leaves you extra money to get snacks or eat something different one day.

Yea.

Hell a loaf of bread and a jar of peanut butter can last for days if you're eating just for the sake of survival.

Also heard survival stories of where people lived for days on crackers and a couple bottles of water.
