We spend about $40/wk on groceries and there are three of us. Plain steamed broccoli (or boiled if you don't have a steamer basket and can't spare a buck for one at a dollar store) is perfectly fine. Bake chicken breast in the oven 15-20 minutes at 450, cut it open to make sure the pink is gone. Bam, there's dinner. If you take some meat (probably chicken because it's cheapest) and vegetables, you can just cut them up into small pieces, and boil it in a pot with instant ramen. You can also add an egg for extra protein or to make it more filling. If it were me, I'd get: -a cheap 10 pack of instant ramen -about 3-4 pounds (total, not each) of chicken, pork, and beef -carrots -a head of cabbage -onions -lettuce -cherry tomatoes -a dozen eggs -white bread -cheap cheese and cold cuts -butter and maybe jam for toast I would then cut up the meat into small pieces, separate into 8 portions and freeze it. Toast and sometimes an egg for breakfast, sandwich and maybe a salad for lunch, ramen mixed with meat, cabbage, onions, carrots and an egg for dinner. You should be able to get enough of that to last 8 days for $20-30 in any part of the country.
