Did they ever explain exactly why the people were eating all of those chemicals? Was it to kind of melt their bodies to make it easier for them to transform into the Meaty Mind Flayer?

Maybe. That seems like the obvious hint but it could be a misdirect.

Either way I doubt hes gone for good. They explicitly show the Russians in the room get vaporized but we dont see what happens to Hopper when their A.I.M. machine explodes

It could be a fake out I guess. Not clear whether they just didn't want to be tacky and show Hopper getting crispy or if they captured him or something in that mysterious Russian jail that has a pet demogorgon they feed prisoners to.

Don't fuck with Elle.

I love how the party really comes together this time around.

Never forget going in that each season is a new D&D campaign, and the dice are just off screen.

Yeah I recently played some D&D as the DM and it was great storytelling practice

I was thinking it'd be cool if they had another "caster" in the group. I guess they gave Will "true sight"/boogyman sensing powers but maybe an analog to a cleric would be interesting. Maybe there's no way to make it fit

Did I miss what exactly made El lose her powers? Was it just overexertion or something the meatball mind flayer did to her?

My money is its papa, remember in season two when that heavy set guy said he was still alive and that he could take them to him? That makes a lot more sense than it being Hopper.

So, the mind flayer was made up of exploded rats and people that fed on chemicals? So much scarier looking than the larger insect/shadow formation.

Also, was it clear that the green corrosive material in the canisters were being used to fuel the laser opening the gate?

Yeah, uh, you're not going to get to a secret base in Russia in the 80's if you're an American. Much less a fat American with a little girl in tow.

A lot of time has pasted since that event and what happened in S3. Please it makes since why they were ready for a Demegoran(however its spelled) with the cage and all that. It would also explain why they knew about the hole, the location, and all that.

I actually don't remember season 2 like at all, but that seems plausible.

I would say that it's a combination of her using them so freely, and the gate to the Upside-down being slammed shut. Surely the flayer bite didn't help.

That being said, she remembers her training and I would expect her to keep trying to crush coke cans until she can tap into them again.

Overexertion, and how many times she tried to find people with a blindfold on. Mike was very concerned using her so often would take a toll on her. When she tried to find Billy, that session clearly drained her and sapped her of her powers more than usual, when she tried to exit and Billy grabbed her arm, then she took the blindfold off and her friends weren't there initially. That session sapped her, then she was greatly weakened when the thing messed up her leg.

So I think it was a combination of her being used to find people with her mind so often, which has to be much more draining than simply closing a door with her mind or something basic, that may even be more draining than physically moving stuff or fighting monsters or people. The intensity of finding Billy and seeing his thoughts drained her, then the thing injuring her leg weakened her overall which obviously affected her energy levels and her ability to use her powers.

Yeah they were showing that she was clearly over exerting herself the whole season. She was constantly bleeding from her nose.

Not to that extent, and she was VERY power heavy in most of the fights with the monsters this time round.
