I mean, she probably shouldn't have put herself into the situation in the first place, but it's understandable and hindsight is 20/20.

Basically, I just had a woman (early 20's) come walking in crying hysterically and rambling almost incoherently. After a solid minute of getting her to calm down, telling her to take a few deep breaths, and just generally letting her know that she's safe I finally managed to figure out that her boyfriend's drunk step-father had just pulled a gun and shot at her and her boyfriend at a 4th of July party. She didn't see him shoot, as she had her back turned and immediately started running away when she heard the shots, but she did look back and see him standing on the porch with the gun in his hand. So I don't know if he actually shot at them or if he was like firing into the air to scare them. Either way it's fucked up.

The boyfriend came in a couple minutes later and helped to calm her down a bit more while calling his mom and her parents to let everyone know what was going on. I guess the boyfriend's mom had been there earlier but had left to go to work before any problems started. Sounded like the step-dad is kind of a sketchy fucker to begin with and has had some anger issues, but this was the first time he'd ever pulled a weapon. I guess the whole thing started because the step-dad's dog peed on the girl's bag or something like that. Which obviously upset the girl, so she scolded the dog. Apparently that set off the step-dad who began screaming and yelling at this girl and her boyfriend. They didn't want to deal with him, so they decided to leave. The girl said that she just wanted to get out, so she just grabbed her bag and walked out. Her boyfriend was still inside gathering a few other things in the house, then she heard the door fly open and her boyfriend came running out a few moments before the step-dad came out and fired the gun.

They hung out here for about 20 minutes and someone just came to pick them up. They refused to call the police. :-( The boyfriend kept saying he wanted to go back and straighten things out, the he "can handle this," but his girlfriend and I managed to talk him out of that. I hope they're alright. And I hope the fuckhead gets arrested. Unfortunately I don't have any information to call the cops myself. Couldn't even tell you what street they were on, let alone anybody's names. :-/

EDIT: I made the first statement not because I'm blaming the girl in any way. It's just that she's known he's a violent guy and probably should have known being around him (especially after his wife left) when he's drinking wasn't a great idea. But again, he's family and it's understandable. I just hope they learn from it and just stay away from the guy in the future.
