I don't expect this to be a thing many care about but it sure is irritating me.
2 20 pound bags of Kingsford briquets. Always $10 at Home Depot and Lowes every Memorial, Independence and Labor Day.
Typical summer sale.

These assholes jacked the price up to $15. On sale. WTF! A 50% increase. What bs.
Usually we load up for the summer in May. Well we thought maybe the better sale would be for July 4. Nope. I wonder what stupid ass excuse for the price they have.

why would you think the prices would be better during a key grilling time? Of course they're going to lower their sales %...that's how businesses work.

I don't think some of you get that yes contrary to what you would think. Memorial, July 4 and Labor Days are the weeks the best sales occur for charcoal. Always. Been doing this for 20 years. Not October or the middle of winter. Briquets are full price then. Those $15 double bags will be $22-25 all other times of the year.

Imagine not making your own charcoal at home and buying it from the store.

They were $10 last year.

Kingsford is made in Missouri I'm pretty sure.
Saw it on History channel once. Their origin is connected with Henry Ford.

I'm old school and still use wood.
But that's basically for personal use.

I haven't campfire cooked with a product in a while, if ever.

I smoke with wood as I'm doing for brisket in a few days. But I always grill with charcoal. Unless my cooking times line up just right on the 4th where I can move the smoking wood remnants into the grill for burgers.
Only happened once but it was delicious.
But getting smoking wood around here is a hard find. Not cheap either. Only 2 places I know of are 20 miles away and what they have is random. Stocked up last year so I'm using almond and hickory again.

Wood isn't old school, it's professional tier.

Local place by me has done BBQ since the 1940s, they wood smoke and cook all of it and it's perfect. I learned some of the skills from the cook there and do it a bit myself at home now.

Ya, but I'm sure I'm not at that level.

As odd as it sounds on CE I still have some pre wwii sensibilities about me.

I haven't dabbled in specialized woods..except the White Pines and Maples..some Ash...

To me, it's a necessary thing, and I love that.

Unfortunately, my town gets easily butthurt over back yard fires and so I've just skipped that and just go to the mountains and use what's available. There is a firestation within a 4 minute walk from my place, so I've learned not to mess with that. Back in the day though, when people were allowed to act like adults it was pretty fun.

I actually kinda want one of those small lodge grills, but they could also be a pain.

So, I just get it out of my system in the great north woods.

Main rules, don't kill yourself, or anyone else, and don't burn the place down.
Best rules ever.
