Falcom president Toshihiro Kondo revealed two screenshots and new information on the latest entry in the Trails series of The Legend of Heroes games during the Trails Series 15th Anniversary Commemoration & New Title Start (?) Special Broadcast.

Here are the images and details:

The previously shown images of Rixia Mao, a young man from the Nord Highlands, and Scarlet were shown again in direct-feed.



The full map of the Zemuria continent.



The backs of two characters related to the future of the series are shown on the cover of the latest issue of Dengeki PlayStation. It is speculated that the girl is a character from one of the in-game novels due to the large stuffed animal she is holding.

The project began with the development of a new game engine. The graphics are also being enhanced.

It may be difficult to see in screenshots, given the fact that they are printed on paper, but the characters and background scenery are quite upgraded from The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel IV ~The End of Saga~.

The situations and characters shown in the screenshots are meant to be hints regarding the next title.

This new title is meant as a followup or spin-off-style game. Since the Crossbell characters have appeared, many people might think, What about that person? So it is a game that will show things like, What did that person do at that time? What were they doing after?

Kondo also answered the question of whether previous entries in the Trails series would come to PlayStation 4, or if there were any plans to develop more Evolution titles (enhanced re-releases of older titles).

Us too, dont like the fact that options to play our past works disappear with time, Kondo said. I like to believe our games are timeless, but consoles change over time. Due to that, we want to leave an option to play them in some way. The Trails series, especially, will continue on still, so it will be nice to be able to look back on past titles. Right now, we want to prepare something that can be played on PlayStation 4, so were working on something behind the scenes.

Kondo continued, If were talking about a simple port, it wouldnt be very hard at all, but if the graphics rendering method changes, then it becomes fairly difficult.

Finally, he said, I want to promise to deliver something in some form.

Map is cool. I had a few places off in my mental reckoning, either in location (Alteria/Leman a bit more east than I thought) or size (Liberl so tiny, thought it was a bit bigger than that compared to Erebonia)

Falcom basically jettisoned its PC programmers though so they'd need someone else to do it I think.

but really call me when we get a crossbell localization announcement. falcom putting it on ps4 is obviously huge for enabling it but still need someone to commit to it

I don't think there's been an announcement or anything, but I believe a final Cold Steel game similar in style/structure to Sky The 3rd has been speculated for a while based on things Falcom/Kondo have said. ("a while" meaning pretty much since CS4 released in Japan)

Well, one of those screenshots looks just like Ymir, so it seems like this new game is still set in Erebonia, at least partially.

It has been, but it's also been kind of a running joke that Cold Steel just refuses to end starting when CS3 not being the end of the Erebonia Arc.

I have no issues with that (3rd is not only my favorite Kiseki game, but probably my favorite game of all time) I just find it funny that if this really is the 5th, it'll equal the entire series before it in games. >_>

Wasn't the Erebonia arc originally supposed to have finished with the 3rd game in the series?

FC and SC were originally planned as one game and the 3rd was never planned. I don't think the Crossbell arc was originally planned at all, though I'm not 100% certain on that bit. CS 1+2 and CS 3+4 were originally both supposed to be each a single game.

No, it was - and it increasing in prominence in SC and especially the 3rd were hints. Just as we "knew" the next arc would be Calvard like a decade ago.

What happened was they intended to start it after SC then realized they had to/wanted to explore some dangling threads and set up some background and lore before they could properly do it and that's what led to Sky the 3rd being a thing. The plan was to go from SC right into Crossbell.

Edit: Unless you mean there's some story floating around about the overarching plot like even before SC, in which case, I dunno, can't say I've heard it.

Yeah what I remember having read is that when they were just starting on the Sky series that they didn't have a Crossbell arc planned and were originally going to jump straight to Erebonia.

This isn't something I'm completely sure I read at all in any case though >.>
