I understand the biological facts behind it but I still see no problem with them identifying as a different gender if they've taken the steps to be that gender.

I do believe, however, that there are only two genders, so none of that non-binary nonsense.

Okay. So let's break this down. Trans woman. She's a woman. Always a woman. She starts to transition. That's a process with many steps, some of which she may opt not to go for, especially with prohibitive cost barriers in the way. Thing is, she's as much a woman at the start of the process as any step during or after getting all the surgeries she might get.

And there's not even 2 explicit sexes, it's more like a bell graph where most fit in to one of two variants (male/ female) and if you break those down further it's (mostly cis males/ mostly cis females) but there's more than just those 2 options that lead the pack.
