Nasty water
Housing is super expensive

Super high state income tax

It pretty much blows. If you want a state with all the diversity and job opportunities of Cali, go to Texas instead.

Its nice. Good weather, Even if you live in a small town you're not too far from something to do. Its expensive, yes, but that all depends on where you live. Everyone seems to think the entire state is just San Francisco and Beverley Hills. That's not the case at all.

Depends entirely on where you live, like if you're on the coast you'll have decent weather, if you're more inland you can face some real heat.

Water is really expensive.

Culture is nice and chill but that's the West coast in general.

Best state you can imagine if you like the outdoors
girls are the best
good food

on the other hand
most expensive place to live
really shitty environmental problems (earthquakes, fires, smog)
gas is high as fuck

If I had a million Id move there in a heartbeat. No other state can you go from mountain tops, to the desert to a beautiful beach and then back to redwoods. Its amazing there.

What part of CA? Its literally the size of HALF the west coast. Theres 14 states across the east coat, meaning vertically CA is the size of 7 of them. Theres multiple climates and such, super different depending on region.

Lets see, for me, I live in the southernmost coastal city, so heres my pros and cons:

-usually great weather, can always be active

-scenic, lots to see and do

-good music scene

-great diverse foods of almost any origin you can think of (and the BEST Mexican food north of the border)

-terrible housing market, super exploitative and not enough regulation (the ~free market~ has raised the prices to the range held by property management companies and individuals cant compete, so your landlord is almost always a company with millions of dollars in multiple houses across the county)

-subpar public transit. Its just under developed and can take 2 hours to get most places that would otherwise take a 20 minute drive, so avoid that.

-beaches are awesome, multiple different types too depending on preference. Theres a ritzy bougie one, a touristy one with a park, a hippie one, a bro-ish party one, a more spacious open natural one by some cliffs and wetlands, and also a nude beach.

-very well funded public schools. The k-12 schools are usually outstanding, and the community colleges were well priced when I was going (although thats likely changed) and were mostly staffed with professors from nearby universities, so while going to those I was getting a top notch education for like $250 a semester.

-super diverse, not only ethnically but also just in terms of different people with different interests and lifestyles. No matter who you are its hard to say you dont fit in with anyone.

What part of CA?

Yeah, TC needs to know this. California has everything from the desert of Death Valley to coastal towns like Pacifica where the sun is relatively seldom seen through the mist and fog. The cities and towns range from condensed places like San Francisco down to glorified cow towns like Sacramento(not actually a cow town, but boring AF compared to the Bay Area), to actual farmland and rural areas that might as well be part of Missouri.

It really depends on where you live.

When people say California everyone thinks of beaches.

Theres mountains, farmland, desert, bays, beaches, inland.

Price depends on where you live really. Overall it's the best state to live in but it's not without fault

Nice, youre in LB? Aquarium and St Mary is cool

Can't say it's my favorite Aquarium, but the memberships cheap and it's nice that everything is so close by. Queen Mary is alright. The only time worth going is during Halloween imo.

On topic, traffic does suck and my rent definitely seems to be getting higher every year.

Those places are like the Midwest/South of California. Despite being hundreds of miles from large bodies of water they are still somehow humid. Good for farming I guess but tough to live through.

Seriously depends where you live

We talk about the weather but if you're like even 10 miles inland you're legit in the desert.

Housing and gas are the real killers for COL. I don't think groceries are any more expensive. My other bills are pretty much the same as they were on the east coast.

Traffic can suck but that's true everywhere and honestly it was worse around NYC.

Seems like no matter where you're traveling the scenery is gorgeous.

Very diverse population. That tends to bring with it really good food as well from my experience.
