...but you live by whatever physics/laws/rules the devs put in. You can come and go as you see fit as often as you like, but only for that one video game. None of the damage, pain, or death of the game will affect you physically in the real world. Basically it's like VR of that game, but you have full control of the character and you are actually in the game world, not in a VR headset looking at a screen.

Yes. Whatever cheats, codes, glitches, exploits, etc., when the game was released, or post patch if you prefer, they're at your disposal.

Also, are you free to re-start the game or make new characters at any time? And if you die or get a game over, do you just blink back to the last loading point?

You can do whatever was programmed into the game. You cannot just do whatever you imagine or desire unless it is already in the game. A game over works however the game you're in works in terms of check points or saves. You get knocked out of the game for that session if the game has no check points/saves, but you can enter again whenever you want, so it's not a big deal. You can re-start and make new characters as often as the game allows.

If you can do it in the game, it's allowed. You can roam around GTA V freely, buy and eat snacks and get drunk. Get hos. It's all up to you. You can play the story if you want, but in GTA V it's not forced on you, so...
