They're overcrowded and trying to get inmates out of there as quickly as possible, and they just don't have the funds to get up to standards in a lot of areas. --- I am the Cheese! So you believe someone should profit from incarceration. Did I say that? No. I said that they should work to cover the costs of their incarceration. Pretty simple to understand, really. Theres better shit we can spend our tax money on besides over feeding and underworking people who choose to break the rules. Sitting in your ass should never be an option for a prisoner. Look at prison in Japan and you will realize that forcing them to work has an amazingly high rate of prisoners actually working when theyre released. Letting people sit idle for years doesnt make them motivated to be successful and productive after youre released. Japanese prisoners are literally so tired that violence and rape is almost non existent Knowing the US, it'll quickly become a system of cheap labor for exploitative companies. In fact, I think I've heard about that for voluntary work programs where they pay them little or nothing for work that would normally qualify for at least minimum wage.
