In all honesty, whats happening in the last two episodes is third impact

The AT field is actually just the ego, which gives us individuality. Third impact eliminates that and melds all human consciousness into one collective.

The last two episodes is basically Shinji drifting through humanitys consciousness and making the decision that being alive as an individual is worth it.

Ah, I see. I'm definitely going to watch End of Evangelion in a few days when I get time again.

I enjoyed the series, but idk towards the end it got really depressing and went off the rails, which I assume is the literal point of it >_> I still didn't enjoy it as much when the show transitioned into that mood lol. But I'm still glad I watched it all. Very interesting series. I wonder what kid me would've thought if he watched this when it came out

That's the explanation but it's execution is still because the show ran out of budget, hence all the shortcuts and stuff.

Admittedly it's been a very long time since I read anything about Evangelion but I recall that the creator suffered something of a breakdown in his personal life and that bled into the latter half of the show.

I definitely liked the first half of the series where it's cool robot fights and fun slice of life stuff with Shinji being awkward around the 3 hotties he's with. But then it started getting really depressing really quickly lol. I know that's the point of it but I didn't like that part of the series as much >_> Not to mention literally nothing makes sense towards the ending lol. The movie barely answered anything but it is a better conclusion than the last 2 TV episodes. Overall I did enjoy the experience a lot though. I'm glad I got to watch it.

So what's next? What's Death and Rebirth? What's 1.11, 2.22, and 3.33? Should I watch them or nah?

Death and Rebirth is a recap movie of the series plus a preview of EoE. Not really required watching but iirc it has some additional footage that as later edited into the DVD versions of the episodes.

1.11 etc. are (relatively) recent remake movies.

3.33 They skew off in a wildly different direction, picking up in the aftermath of the third impact and makes about as much sense as youd expect to see from an Evangelion movie. More gay Kaworu stuff though.

And tbh theres a fan theory that the movies arent even remakes but a sequel to the series.

All the main story beats are the same but instead of TangWorld, it ends with Shinji and Asuka meeting each other at a subway station for the first time.

The Rebirth movies start off as straight remakes, then fly off in a totally different direction. 1.11 is more or less a straight recap of episodes 1 - 8, but 2.22 is a big swerve into more big, bombastic shonen action. 2.22 is my favorite Eva movie next to End of Evangelion, for completely opposite reasons - I even got it on DVD.

3.33 is an acquired taste, though. Personally it made me feel a little sick to the stomach, because I waited like two years for the dub to come out and then the movie wasn't even that good imo. Regardless, the Rebirth movies are a lot of fun. I think you'll like 2.22 the most out of the current releases.

Just give the series a bit of time to cool off. 1.11 is almost a shot for shot distillation of the first 8 episodes.
