It's just more proof that he's bad at what he does. Mario Maker is a great game for streaming. There is so much entertaining Mario Maker content on YouTube, with people doing those Super Expert challenges and so on, and you can tell they love what they're doing. None of those guys are going to bore their viewers by sticking to story mode long after people have started to complain.

There are already so many great levels up that it'd be stupid to just stick to story mode. I figured level creation would be right up his alley. It's slow, meaning he can turn it into a "chill" and "interactive" stream where chat handholds him through every step, kind of like his Minecraft streams. Maybe he's afraid of uploading his levels and having detractors spam the "boo" button.

That's the kind of thing a good streamer (or even a below average streamer) would use to interact with chat. "I think I'd want _____, and here's why. But how about you guys? If everyone in chat had to pick a last meal, what would you want? Would you go with something fancy, maybe something you've always wanted to try but never had the opportunity to? Or would you stick with something you know you like?"

But no, interactivity for Phil is talking about what he wants to talk about, even though he seems like he only wants to complain about the game or money, while people attach donations to their messages.

I don't even know what he wants in terms of interaction. He has no interest in any pop culture stuff, he doesn't go to see movies, doesn't read books, doesn't play any games when he's not streaming. You can't ask about Kat or his personal life because of the trolls, and he's made it clear that he's not interested in anything his fans are doing--the discussion must be about Phil. Even when people ask about wrestling, something he is interested in, his responses are minimal and usually boil down to him not having an opinion.

So what is anyone supposed to talk about? The game he's playing, which is usually something Phil himself is bored with? How about upcoming games? Spoilers: They all sound terrible and he can't afford them.

As far as I know he never appologized for anything ever. More like sorry I got caught, but not sorry for what I did. And more often than not, he shifts the blame to the outside: "Nothing I could do", "people took it out of context", "people interpreted it wrong", etc.

But never is our boy Phil to blame.

I like that it's the viewers' fault for keeping the prestream going by donating during it, forcing him to acknowledge those donations. I'm sure he'd prefer if no one donated so that he could get right to the game. It's probably also the viewers who make him go on long-winded rants about detractors and take bathroom breaks after the prestream instead of before.

Imagine a homeless guy asking you for change and then bitching that he's going to be late because you took the time to dig some change out of your wallet.

DSP is full of shit. He has been going on these 45+ minutes prestreams since forever. The reason he rants so long is: 1) DSP is a drama queen who needs to discuss any events that may have happened and/or to vent, and 2) if he starts his gaming stream early before people can "pack into the stream", they might leave since they may have missed out on something important in the game.

I think it's different than that, but mainly because it works:

Phil seems to be afraid (or at least, this is my interpretation of it), that if he doesn't constantly remind people to give him money, people will stop giving him money. I remember things like him saying that you don't need a Paypal to donate to Paypal for example, going at length to explain all the ways you can "contribute", and the longer it takes for people to "contribute", the longer he has to keep the pre-stream going, just to get the message across.

More than anything, Phil is afraid of being forgotten. As much as he loves to tout his 10 (now 11) year legacy, he is leaving behind absolutely nothing of worth. He thinks that his detractors/trolls are nothing without him, but the truth is: if Phil was gone tomorrow, they will all move on. A train-wreck is impossible to not look at, but the moment is over, people will go about their daily lives. So if Phil doesn't go out of his way to remind everyone of his existence, he fears that he will fade out of existence.

I don't believe for a second he is a complete idiot, he might have money management issues, because the only joy he seems to get is that immediate high when he gets his money: I urge to monitor his behaviour the next few days, and then compare his behaviour the 15th-16th, when he gets his Twitch payment. Also, take into consideration that in the month of June, he made 5.000 dollars just in tips alone. He is just now trying to get as much as he can, using the same old spiel: tons of bills and stuff behind the scenes.

On top of that, Phil doesn't enjoy playing games, with a few exceptions far and between, so the longer he drags out the pre-stream, the less he as to play the games he hates. Ironically, Judgement is a game he actually seems to enjoy, but the game itself isn't "prime" streaming material, so it is up to Phil to make it more fun/interesting to watch, which he fails horribly at. Which means he is constantly throwing bitchfits about low "contributions" and playing by himself, no one is interacting. So he is now going to stop playing the game. His greed has actually become stronger than his, rare enjoyment of the game.

Phil is interesting to watch, but not for the reasons he wants to believe. He has to be able to "win" at games. Let's take BlackOut for example. People recently have been saying that they wish that he'd go for kills more often, they don't care about his placement. Phil responded something like: that it wasn't the objective of the game, killing other people, only the spot you finish at. Though the most entertaining streams to watch are people who play BR games who don't shy away from the fight, but also those who aren't afraid to fuck up.

This is why Phil usually avoids "open" games, games where there are no clear goals to work towards to, because you can't "win" these games. Which, seamlessly tie in with his weird personality.

I would say no to the coupon question. He's so bad with money that he's not going to care about saving a few dollars here or there. I remember when someone called him out on being broke and still drinking bottled water instead of tap water, and Phil said it didn't matter because cases of bottled water were only a few bucks each. Apparently when you're so broke literally every month that you're getting hit with multiple overdraft fees, cutting unnecessary expenses (even small ones) doesn't matter.

YouTube is definitely flawed and has made a lot of mistakes over the years, but Phil owes his entire career to them. Remember the meltdown when there was the issue with his AdSense account and he didn't make any money off YouTube for a couple weeks? He brought that up for months afterwards, despite constantly claiming that YouTube is merely an archive. Sort of seems like he needs YouTube enough that he shouldn't keep badmouthing them.

Edit: Just saw the video of him claiming YouTube only exists because of money they got from Google, and they never accept feedback from anyone. Phil is the least self-aware person in the world.

Phil constantly forgets that Youtube is a privelege, not a right.

Phil believes that he should get more money, because his content (and that of other content creators) is what makes Youtube money, and they should be rewarded properly for it, because without them, Youtube would get no traffic. Now of course, there is a mutual beneficial relationship between content creators and Youtube, but it it's not that simple.

Some things that Phil, and a lot of entitled fucks on Youtube aswell constantly overlook:

-Youtube is not an employer, you are not an employee, therefor you have no contract, and they have no obligation to pay you for your effort, you should consider yourself lucky you can make money playing games, sitting on your ass all day.

-Youtube costs a metric fuckton of money to keep in the air. Things Phil loves to overlook is that Youtube offers unlimited space to upload content, no bandwith restrictions when people view that content. Oh and for ABSOLUTELY FUCKING FREE. All you have to do tongst started, is make an account.

-By running adds on content, Youtube can cover the massive costs of the above mentioned. But generous as they are, for the services they offer, they also give you a cut.

-Youtube can change whatever the fuck they want to change, but if you disagree with their policu, you are free to fuck off, they have no obligation to pander to you, or any other self entitled fuck. You are using a free platform and should thank fuck every day you can get paid for doing absolutely fucking nothing.

-Youtube also has no obligation to take care of you. If they want to terminate your channel tomorrow, then you are shit out of luck. They may have a "moral" obligation, but certainly nog legal one. Or does anyone have a direct contract with Youtube that states how much money they get for their efforts?

-The fact that you have no back-up plan should you go tits up, is neither Youtubes fault, nor concern. You choose to put all your eggs in one basket, you didn't cultivate alternatives for when the well dries up. Youtube is not responsible for your lack of foresight.

-Youtube is ultimatly a company, and what matters most is brining in money so they can keep going and pay their ACTUAL employees.

For someone with a business degree, Phil lacks any and all understanding as how a business works.

Sorry for the angry rant, but Youtubers and Phil in general piss me the fuck off when their incomes dio and they are facing rough times. Youtube is not a job, they are not your boss/employer and they owe you shit. YOU chose to take the risk, but you are unwilling to shoulder the consequences when shit hits the fan. That is on YOU.

Getting banned by Twitch (which probably won't ever happen) would be the most entertaining saga ever. The ranting and emergency videos would be legendary. There is no way he could replace that income; I think he gets almost all of his money from Twitch these days. He could attempt to stream on some smaller site (and I'm sure some of the smaller sites would welcome him with open arms simply for the extra activity his presence would generate), but it would take a while to establish himself, and I don't think he'd make nearly as much money.
