In an interview with Meet the Press host Chuck Todd, the president said that about 30 minutes before the operation was to take place, his national security team came to him and asked for his final decision.

"I said, I want to know something before you go," Trump recalled. "How many people will be killed in this case, Iranians. I said, how many people are going to be killed?"

His military team said it would find out, Trump told Todd, and came back with the answer that approximately 150 people would very likely die.

The president said:

"I thought about it for a second and I said, you know what, they shot down an unmanned drone, plane, whatever you want to call it, and here we are sitting with 150 dead people, that would have taken place probably within a half an hour after I said go ahead.

"And I didn't like it. I didn't think I didn't think it was proportionate."

In the international community, the president's reversal is likely to be perceived as "somewhat indecisive," Stavridis said. It could also signal that members of Trump's national security team might be at odds with one another, he noted, adding that there is currently no confirmed secretary of defense.

"There was complete unanimity amongst the president's advisers and DOD leadership on an appropriate response to Iran's activities."

Its also fun to point out that the drone that was shot down, the RQ-4 Global Hawk, costs between $176-220 million dollars. Why it costs so much, I dont know

Honestly the ONE thing I was hoping for out of Trump was that we wouldn't get too involved in the Middle East. If he stays true to that I will at least respect him somewhat.

So when, in your opinion, did you wanted Trump to have figure out the numbers? Immediately after receiving word that the Drone was shot down (Which wasn't that long ago before the decision of pulling back was made anyways)? When they bombed that ship with mines? When Iran stated they would/may restart enrichment? When the Iran deal was cut?

The fact that this question wasnt brought up during the meetings when they were deciding what to do is just....sad.

I mean, I cant lie, I like that hes actually thinking about casualty counts and whatnot, but this is something that should have been brought up in the meetings, not like 20 minutes before it was going to happen.

20 minutes before the strike was to take place was not the meetings, considering the ask for the final decision didnt take place till ~30 minutes before it was to take place.
