A couple of years ago I watched the cybertron pilot which was basically what would become VR Troopers, but it started Jason David Frank from MMPR. SSSS was based on Gridman, made by Tsuburaya which made Ultraman, so definitely not lol. >_> As a kid I loved VR Troopers almost more than Power Rangers, but going back its almost impossible to watch. They spliced together 3 different Japanese shows to make it and it shows. However neither show acknowledged the other afterward. Same with In Space and TMNT: The Next Mutation. Sentai on the other hand has crossovers with Metal Heroes and Kamen Rider all the time. Watching Syber-Squad now the action is still great and I love Tim Curry, but the other characters are over the top. Towards the end of Zeo David Yost had issues behind the scenes when it was revealed he was gay and stand-ins were used to play Billy. When the character was on Aquatar he sent a transmission saying he had fallen in love with someone from the planet and would remain living there for the time being. I guess they didn't want to show too much of Japan to keep the illusion of the show being set in California. I think they only appear in the background of one episode. The one with the Samurai Fan Man.
