Confusion: Medicare for All who want it?

Only one in five Americans are very confident they know what Medicare for All would mean for our health care system (18% very confident) or their personal health care (20% very confident). When asked to characterize what Medicare for All means to them, respondents are divided: 40% think Medicare for All would eliminate the private insurance market and require everyone to switch to Medicare, while 60% think it would let anyone buy Medicare who wants to, while allowing others to stay on their private insurance. Perhaps most fascinating: Democrats are most likely to think Medicare for All is a buy-in program, while Republicans are much more likely to believe it will eliminate private insurance.

it's poor wording in the explanation, but if you look at the way the question itself is worded it is correct

"A healthcare plan that would make everyone get rid of their current private insurance and switch over to Medicare"

That makes sense, I fucking hate how Medicare for All is being used to mean some form of universal healthcare by some and single payer by others. The Democrats who want to capitalize on Sanders fan base without wanting to match his policy have been the biggest offenders.

Medicare itself has no obligation to forgo private insurance, and a supposed "medicare for all" can never actually cause private insurance to go away, even with an outright ban.

Huh? Current plans that are offered would no longer be allowed, 100%. There would be private insurance, but they couldn't compete with Medicare, so the services offered would be almost entirely cosmetic as the current M4A proposals include dental and vision iirc

It's really simple:

Democrats: take his stuff and give it to me
Republicans: stop taking my stuff and giving it to that guy.

Then, flip those around when ag subsidies come up.

Canada does basically have Medicare for All. But it is less generous than the proposals on the table here, not covering some services like dental and vision care, prescription medications, psychotherapists and physical therapy. 2/3s of Canadians have supplemental private insurance for these things.

European countries tackle health care in a variety of ways. The two labels are the Beveridge (UK, Spain) and Bismarck (Germany, Switzerland) models. They operate very differently

The "population excuse" is just an excuse.
There's no reason to believe it's not infinitely scalable. If anything, a larger pool is more sustainable than a small one.

Well. I'm not sure how to respond to this statement. It will be like Medicare in that it will be a federal program and not a federal-state partnership. It is more like Medicaid in that there are no cost-sharing provisions, but most people will like that aspect.

There is a weird trend where conservatives, who are soaked in a media environment that is constantly warning them of the "socialist menace," often have a better grasp of the left's aims than some liberals. Like, Fox has famously done those graphics just listing all of AOC's platform.

Cool example from just this Sunday: https://twitter.com/DemSocialists/status/1141000243493953541/photo/1

Whereas the liberal tendency is to downplay or soften the radicalism of left-wing Democrats and sometimes the left more broadly. "Nobody is saying they want open borders," "we're not talking about doing away with private insurance..."

Its not Medicare for all, because I got denied service. Im a human being who actually Needed free medical care, but they told me that I didnt get any help.

When I applied, my income was $0 and they said my income was too high. They approved me for the month of March, then waited until April to tell me that my coverage had been canceled without even telling me. So, if I desperately needed surgery, I wouldnt have known in March that I technically had insurance.

I still have all of the paperwork and I really think about filing a lawsuit sometimes. I was racially discriminated against. The sad thing is that there are actually human beings who will take up for this.

People - for some reason - have this idea that we'll be in this utopia with M4A when in reality it will be shit. There is a reason why insurance has different tiers and scales, it's to have better quality care. Under M4A, everything gets pulled down to the lowest tier and tier is complete garbage.

Yeah but why isn't it like that in Canada? Canada has good healthcare. You get sick or need something done, you go get it taken care of with little payment.
