Scenario 1: Imagine the mafia showing you a video of you banging your neighbor.
You say "that is not me!"
But to the eye, it is. They will send it to your wife unless you help them.

Scenario 2: Elizabeth Warren is beating Trump in state. Next thing, the internet leaks her saying the n word. She says that is not her, it is fake. Most people who watch it say it has to be her.

Scenario 3: US news broadcast the president of Iran declaring war. (It is a deepfake)
We go to war believing they are the aggressors.

Yeah, the technology is getting better but most are noticable to the naked eye let alone under scrutiny. But I can see people not waiting for verification and just believing something because it fits what they want to believe.

There is no way to hide all of the artifacts of video editing and effects that come with things like "Deep fakes". It's not possible now and it won't be in 50 years unless convincing super A.I.s are somehow created by then, in which case our largest issues are going to be the god damn A.I.s and reigning in their ability to influence humanity.
