41 y/o Hag, Yaqun Lu, a Chinese Woman from Michigan was arrested in Miami Beach, Florida after she was caught STOMPING on a nest of SEA TURTLE EGGS!!

She was charged with marine turtle and egg MOLESTATION or harassment.

Witnesses said they saw her jabbing at the sea turtle test with a wooden stake and then "stomped all over the nest with her bare feet"

Ernest Rodrigues said however "thankfully, it appears the eggs were not damaged"

She gave her address listed in Hudsonville, Michigan

3 species of sea turtles, the Loggherhead, Green and Leatherback, commonly nest on Miami beaches from April to November according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.

Authorities cordoned off the nesting area with a double permieter of wooden stakes and yellow tape

The US Endangered Species Act of 1973 makes it a felony to hurt or harass sea turtles or their eggs

Police notified the Chinese Consulate in Houston about her crime. She was released from jail after paying 10% or 75,000 bond.

She is barred from returning to the turtle nesting area and is arraigned on July 15th

It is reported that she was seen jabbing the turtle eggs with a stick and stomping all around the turtle nest. Yet the turtle eggs are unharmed.

Something doesnt seem right. Maybe it LOOKED like she was walking over them from a certain distance, folks didnt like the appearance of it, came over and overzealously reprimanded her for what it appeared she was doing... Asian lady fired back, they call cops, etc.

Im reserving judgement on this one.

If they were unharmed then there is no proof she actually hurt them right? Would be hard case to prove unless there is some up close video evidence of it. Even then I doubt any jail time would be in the future, a few thousand dollar fine maybe to some turtle protection group or something.

Florida residents know it's against the law to mess with endangered sea turtles, sandhill cranes, manatees, etc. Florida even dragged to court a couple of Floridians recently who messed with a couple of tiger sharks off the east coast; so why (in most cases) visitors believe that they can come here and disrespect the wildlife by riding them, etc. is beyond me.
